Mitch had two days left until Rescue Bots Academy let them out for Thanksgiving break.
He should have been excited for a break from school, but he was the only one dreading it. While the Autobots probably didn’t necessarily celebrate the holiday, they just knew they had a break. But for Mitch it would mean going back to a group home in Witwicky and pretending to get along with a dozen other screaming kids as they tried not to fight over who got the best helping.
Not that Thanksgiving had ever really been nice to begin with, but last year’s incident cemented it as a pain in the ass.
So, Mitch had decided he wasn’t going off-campus this holiday. He knew that a few of the faculty would still be there so he wouldn’t be unsupervised. But he also didn’t have to smile and pretend to be cool with any of the festivities either. He could watch some tv, train himself up some more, maybe even get some studying done…
He thought of all of this as he sat just outside the academy with a data pad in hand for his usual study session. “Don’t get why we have to have mid-terms right before break anyway…” he groaned as he did.

Heatwave had been asked to give a speech of sorts before fall break began, and truth be told? Not his strong suit. He'd rather be fighting cons for all he cared. Thn again, getting out at all was better than being cooped up at GHOST HQ, he'd been there for a month or so and no major assistance needed... Why'd they even call him?
As he headed for the exit, weaving through the small bots yapping to eachother about break, he noticed Mitch as he reached the entrance.
"Probably to make sure you kids have it in your brain still." A baritone called from- above? behind? Clearly an instructor if that was anything to go off of.

In their brain? Mitch rolled his eyes.
Then again, he was the one that had his struggles in studying so maybe he should have listened to what was said. But then again, if there was one thing that Mitchell Bates had always been, it was stubborn. Something he considered in his response to whoever had said that. “Whatever I don’t, I’m sure you guys can hammer into me over the break,” he said with a shrug. “I plan to get lots of practice runs in anyway. So why don’t you -.”
He stopped mid-sentence when he turned to see who he was talking to.
Obviously, Heatwave and his teams were legends. And given he was the first human to be in Rescue Bot training - the last example he wanted to set was that he was snarky towards instructors. “Oh, Mr. Heatwave, sir,” he stood at attention almost instantly. Sweat trickling down his forehead. “I was just kidding, I promise. I was studying….”
He then added rather nervously. “It’s ummm an honor to meet a legend such as yourself.”

He ex-vented at the formalities, still not entirely used to the 'Mr.' title he'd earned over the course of his teaching career, stepping out of the school and shifting into alt mode so his holoform could sit with Mitch.
"no worries, I probably would've done the same." he chuckled. "the instructors aren't giving you kids too much flak, I hope. And no need to be nervous, just here as a guest speaker." He leaned back, sighing. "It is rare to see a human enrolled here though. You new?"

Mitch nodded, at least he didn’t seem to take offense.
Silently making room for his holoform, he decided it wouldn’t hurt to chat. Though of course he was always a little nervous when talking about himself. People always had a certain way of… Judging you when they heard about who Mitch was. After all, what happened had been very public and damning despite the emotional manipulation.
“I uh, yeah, my first year… Honestly I’m still surprised I’m here at all,” he admitted honestly. “But two years ago, one of your Rescue Bots saved my life when my uncle left me to die. And I’ve wanted to be one of you guys ever since…” he rolled up his long sleeve shirt’s sleeve to show the burn scars for emphasis.
He did shrug when he asked about how rough they were being. “Uh, they’re not too bad. They’re just a little on top of me since I’m the only kid living on campus who isn’t going home for any holidays. Avoiding my group home while I can,” he admitted honestly. After all, the more learning he could do he supposed the more they wanted to get him up to speed. “I’m Mitch, by the way.”
