PERSONAL INFO

History:
Spike's father Sparkplug was a pretty well-known geoengineer and mechanic, from a family that goes back to the Revolution - they've been explorers, shipbuilders, and Pennsylvanian coal workers. He worked in Myanmar, along the Gulf Coast, and then to the Pacific Northwest, where he settled for some time. After the tragic death of his wife in an earthquake, he dedicated himself to raising their son, finding himself overwhelmed between work and family when he took a role on an oil derrick off the coast of Washington state. Spike worked with him then, as a way of both keeping the family together and helping the boy to learn real-world skills rather than being stuck in a classroom all day. Most of the book learning Spike had was driven by his father, and by his genius friend Chip Chase. Spike's no slouch when it comes to academic study, but he's fully aware that he's not a genius. His friendly demeanor and social smarts carry him through, usually. That, and the fact that he's been a friend to the Autobots since the day they woke up (and saved his life).
Megatron's first target on Earth was the very same oil rig that Spike and Sparkplug worked on. Thanks to being saved by the Autobots, Spike befriended Bumblebee, the small scout of the team, and served as a bridge between the two peoples. He is as much a veteran of the Great War as any Autobot, as he was the first human who ever set foot on Cybertron - at least that anybody knows about. His kidnapping trip to Cybertron and back set the timing for Optimus firing the fateful shot; had he taken any longer in the transit craft, it might not have been possible, and there might have been no choice but to allow Megatron to enact his plan, bringing Cybertron into Earth's orbit, with all the destruction that would entail to both worlds.
After a harrowing experience where Spike's mind was briefly transferred to Sparkplug's Frankensteinian creation, "Autobot X", Spike realized that while that body had given him problems, being able to work alongside the Autobots directly was a great idea - so long as he could keep his wits about him. Thanks to that, along with his regular and dependable support of the Autobots, Wheeljack and Ratchet worked together and, with Sparkplug's help, rebuilt the horrifying Autobot X shell into a more coherent exo-suit - a robotic transforming suit which would allow him to operate on the same scale as Transformers. It was also a good protection, as Starscream, Soundwave, and the other rogue Decepticons might have continued to see Spike as the Autobots' version of "Achilles' Heel", a weak point which could be exploited to great gain. With the power of the exo-suit and Spike's familiarity with its operation, that wasn't going to be possible.
In the years following the active parts of the War, Spike and his friends - other allies of the Autobots like Chip, Carly, Luisa, and Raoul - worked with the world's governments to build more official channels to work with the Autobots. It was obvious that the two races would have to learn to work together and build a new future for both. That involvement led to Spike becoming employed by a number of government groups, culminating in the establishment of G.H.O.S.T. between himself and Optimus Prime. While he's had to spend more time in Washington, D.C. than in the town named for his great-grandfather (and namesake) Archibald Witwicky, the ongoing rumors he's heard and the hidden budget lines he's had to approve have made him very concerned about what the organization is up to lately. Through his connections, he reached out to General Hawk of the Army to bring in staff to aid his investigations. Spike has returned to his family's birthplace with an exo-suit, a sneaking suspicion, and a burning passion to help his friends. Like Optimus Prime, he lives by the ideal that freedom is the right of all sentient beings - and if G.H.O.S.T. isn't living up to that, they'll have to answer to him.
