Scott hated he was about to do this, but he needed answers.
To be frank, he didn’t even know how much Duke knew at this point. After all, Duke had always been his dad - as long as he could remember. He hadn’t been formally adopted until he was eight, but he didn’t remember any caretaker before him. He looked up to and loved the man, so he never even once broached the subject of who he was or where he came from. He wasn’t even sure how Duke would react to him asking those questions now. But things were getting weirder, the more things got weirder like they were the more concerned he was.
So he pulled up to his house that night with a mission in his mind.
One that slightly faltered when he was in the front door. And actually called out. “Dad, you home?” His voice. “I think we need to talk.”

Duke sat in the kitchen eating the frozen pizza he just cooked. He wasn't much of a chef, that had always been more of his friend Marvin's thing. So he and Scott were often stuck eating frozen dinners for meals.
Ever since the break out with the Decepticons and the recent scandals with GHOST Duke had been talking with some other military friends about a project he had in mind.
His thought process was interrupted when he heard his adopted son Scott call out.
"Yeah Scott I'm home!" Duke responded. "I can talk! What's wrong?"

Scott took a deep breath.
He guessed it was now or never. As he stepped inside the kitchen, he sat down and collected his thoughts. He hadn’t thought this out too far, he guessed he hoped Duke would be out and he wouldn’t have to have this talk. Hell, a part of him just wished he could live in blissful unawareness that Duke was his dad, but that had never been an option.
Finally. As he took a seat, he decided to rip the bandaid off. “Dad, how much do you know about my… Past?” He asked, looking down at the ground as if ashamed. Though he was sure all adopted kids had this talk eventually, he doubted they had the issues he was having. “Like… Before you got me, y’know? Like, did you get me from foster care; did you know my biological parents…?”
Honestly it was probably best to start easy like that he figured. It would help him know how to proceed.

Duke sighed. He put down his drink.
"Honestly Scott, I don't know much" he admitted "Croft gave you to me as an assignment."
"I don't wanna make it seem like you're an assignment because you're not." he elaborated "She told me you were orphaned by the Decepticons and she wanted me to look after you."
"I had the option to back off a while ago when you were eight but I didn't. You're my son Scott. I promise."

Well that wasn’t exactly what he was expecting.
Handed to him by his superior? That just made this mystery even weirder in his opinion. On one hand, on the surface, the idea that he was orphaned by Decepticons made sense. But why would his superior, of all the people in the world, take a look at him and hand him to an agent of G.H.O.S.T.
“Don’t worry dad, it’s not really that kind of talk…” Scott admitted when he tried to reassure him that he was his son. Scott knew he was loved after all. “… Look, there’s something weird going on. Monica and Mark have been trying to get me to talk to you for like, a month now… But I didn’t know how you’d react.”
He looked for something to display what he was thinking. Finding a steel bar he himself had probably left lying around when tinkering. He took a deep breath, and began to bend it like it was rubber. Coiling it, snapping part of it in half… All kinds of things a fourteen year old should not have been capable of.
When he set the destroyed steel back on the counter he explained: “A few months ago, I did that same thing with a rock as big as my head,” Scott explained, trying to keep his calm here. “And that’s when the growth spurt started…” he explained.

Duke just stood there astonished.
Did his son just...
"I...What?" Duke stammered.
Duke knew he had to be honest.
"Scott... I'm sorry but I don't know what this is." he admitted "I've never heard of anything like this happening before!"

Scott had a bad feeling he was going to say.
He sighed, leaning back a bit as he tried to process that even his dad had no clue what was going on. “Well, the good news is I can’t fly, shoot lasers out of my eyes, and no X-ray vision,” he added rather jokingly. “So we can rule out Superman?”
And he’d definitely tried all three at Mark’s insistence.
Either way, he definitely had a few thoughts being he was given to him by a literal government shadow organization. But he didn’t want to address the elephant in the room. Or any implications in it. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to freak you out… I just didn’t know what to do… I was scared.”

Duke didn't think Scott's Superman remark was funny. He was quiet for a bit. He contemplated everything his adopted son had just told him.
"Listen, Scott..." he started, "I need to go see Croft. I might be away for a while."
"I want you to go stay with Nick for now okay?"

Scott looked at him, and could tell that Duke wasn't having it.
Well, he guessed that he couldn't blame him. What Scott was going through was jarring - but clearly Duke hadn't had any idea what he was... Wait, did he just say he'd be away for a while? On one hand, Scott was worried... But on the other, if he could sneak in being home alone? Maybe he could have a little fun - needless to say. "Sure thing, I can definitely talk to Nick about that," He explained. Knowing full well he'd be able to play this cool. "Or if he can't put me up there's always Mark. You know I can always crash there."
And Mark could easily cover for him... Totally.

"Oh yeah, I forgot about Mark," Duke murmured "He's fine too."
He got up from his seat. "Stay safe alright?"
