Nick was on one of his many excursions into Autobot City that day.
Of course, like usual, he sent Bee a quick comm to let him know he'd be late coming home today. Primus knew that at the end of the day the poor mech had enough on his plate. And since Nick was usually home right after school to spend time with him, it would look bad if he wasn't there. But today, he wanted to take a stop at a spot he'd been to on Halloween. Mostly because since Bee had a friend there, he wouldn't look so weird peeking around a medical area.
Nick had decided a while ago that he wanted to grow up to be a doctor and medic. One that served both species. However, given he hadn't met any of Bee's medically-inclined friends like Ratchet yet. He'd kind of had to hunt down information himself. Medical journals helped, but Nick wanted to see the thing in person. So - he'd snuck into Cyber-Remedies in hopes of getting a look at some stuff and getting out quickly. After all, he didn't wnat anyone Bee didn't trust asking questions...
Of course, he was the dolt who accidentally knocked something over doing so. So now he was standing there with a giant... Something on the ground. "Crap... Good going Nick, break something why dontcha?" He grumbled.

Conjunx Endura~..
It had only been a few days but Clematis was still up there on cloud nine. Sure she and Hot Rod weren't technically conjunxs, but the fact that he'd even asked at all had blown her mind. Clematis couldn't help but radiate that excitement to a near obnoxious level that even Nightshroud had 'kindly' asked her to shut up through their split spark bond. She couldn't help it! Even as she worked all she could think about was how excited she was to spend more time with her boyfriend, and in some ways it actually helped boost her efficiency with how energetic she was. It's wear off eventually, but for now it was the best feeling ever to know that someone wanted to actually spend the rest of their life with her. They'd take things at their own pace, and then when they were ready and felt entirely certain this was what they wanted, then they'd make it official.
She'd been lost in her own little world, humming a little tune to herself that she missed the notification that someone had even entered Cyber-Remedies. The azure and lilac femme had been far too invested in what she was doing while more than welcome intrusive thoughts of Hot Rod entered her processor. It took the sound of something being knocked over in the shop for her to realize someone had actually been there, startling her as she gasped. Clematis quickly turned around, pausing her work to go investigate to see what had even happened.
When Clematis didn't see a Cybertronian she at first got confused, but it didn't take her to find the human child with the knocked over display of packaged mesh bandages. "Hey, are you alright? You should really be more careful." She crouched down, ignoring the mess and focusing on the human. Make sure they were fine first and then she could worry about tidying up.

Nick jumped a little.
Well, at least he wasn’t in trouble it looked like. The last thing that Nick wanted was to either: A) Cause trouble or B) be in trouble. For the most part he was liked by the Autobots he’d met and befriended so the last thing he wanted was to do something to jeopardize that.
So collecting himself, he brushed himself off with his hands held up. “Sorry, sorry really! I was just trying to take a look honest,” he explained rather rashly. Nervous as could be. “I uh… Was just browsing, y’know. I’m thinking about a medical career and Cybertronian anatomy and medicine isn’t something I have a lot of experience in….”
That probably betrayed the fact that he didn’t actually live in Autobot City. But plenty of Autobot’s didn’t right?

Clematis tilted her helm curiously. The human seemed quite panicky about their little accident with the medical kits, but she didn't think it was that big of a deal. "It's okay. Nothing's broken, and besides accidents happen."
At least it seemed like the kid was alright so she started gathering the medical kits so she could put them back on the display arranged nice and neatly.
The azure and lilac femme listened as the human continued to speak, noting his desire to learn what he could about medical things between anatomy and medicine making. She supposed the request wouldn't have seemed so strange if he'd been referring to humans, but he'd specifically mentioned Cybertronian anatomy. Clematis didn't know of any humans that worked on Cybertronians outside of maybe mechanics of the highest caliber, but in the medical field? That was something she hadn't quite seen before not to say that it wasn't possible. Besides, having small hands meant being able to get into places that were harder to access for another Cybertronian. "Pardon my asking, but are you saying you want to be a medic? Isn't energon highly toxic for humans even with the slightest touch? It seems risky, but if you know the risks and are willing to take them maybe one day you could achieve that goal."
Once she'd finished cleaning up the display, the femme stood back up. "My name's Clematis, by the way. I work here and help make medicine for Cybertronians. Who are you?"

Nick shrugged.
He had heard that before, a lot. But at the same time, he was always a stubborn kid, and that hadn't changed. Nick had also been one of the few humans who had learned Cybertronian after all. But the toxicity, definitely did have its challenges. Though he'd thought about his own way around that too. "It won't be the first time I do something everyone thought was hard... I taught myself Cybertronian too. Though my dad is helping me perfect that too," He pointed out proudly. "I just... I've always been into Cybertronians... Don't get me wrong, I want to be a human doctor too. But I want to be the first who does both."
OH! She was Clematis! That was funny, he supposed he should have known by now. But then again, they hadn't actually met so... "Oh! Hey! Sorry, I should have introduced myself sooner," He added with a wave. "I'm uh... Nick. Bee's kid. Sorry, this is not the first impression I wanted to make!"

A human knowing Cybertronian language? That was definitely a rarity but certainly not impossible. Reading it was one thing, but speaking it was something else. Clematis assumed that the human had meant the former considering humans didn't have the mechanical components to enunciate most Cybertronian words, though maybe there were some ways that it could be done that she hadn't realized. Each human was built differently just like they were, and it wasn't like it was abnormal for humans to do weird things with their voices. Just a few weeks ago the azure and lilac femme had heard of a broadway star who could sing like he was shredding his voice non-stop for eight times a week, but his vocal cords developed in a such unique way that speaking like that came as naturally as breathing to him.
But just before she could respond, that's when the child apparently named Nick dropped the bombshell.
"Wait.. Bee?" Clematis tilted her helm. "As in Bumblebee? He's your dad?" She didn't sound offended at all by what Nick was saying, but rather confused and curious all at the same time. Since when had Bumblebee taken in a kid? Granted she didn't exactly know her friend very well, but they still talked on occasion. "I didn't realize he'd taken in a child. Sorry if I sounded like I didn't believe you. That wasn't at all how I was trying to come across, but if you and he are a thing then I guess I could do him a favor by teaching you what I know. I'm not the best medic to learn from by any means because I myself only started learning advanced first aid from Ratchet about a year ago, but.. I can certainly show you how I make medicine if that's okay."

Nick laughed.
Though he did blush too, honestly he didn’t know which of Bee’s friends he told and that was OK. He just didn’t like that he had put anyone on the spot. He rubbed the back of his neck nervously. “Oh! No it’s my bad, I didn’t realize he or Wheeljack hadn’t said anything to you. Yeah it’s uh… Newish I guess? I mean he took me in a year ago, but I just started calling him dad a while ago. Before that it was more like a mentor thing, I think.” he admitted. “No! No! You’re fine. Honestly. It was my fault for assuming.”
Oh, she’d teach him!? Honestly, Nick brightened up more about that. It was definitely not something he was expecting going in. “Would you really!? That’d be so awesome!” He then added with wide eyes. “Wait, you met Ratchet? Dude! He’s like the coolest! I’ve read every one of his medical essays twice.”

Wait so Nick and Bee had been a thing for the past year? Granted Clematis hadn't had any reason to ask and it wasn't like she was real close with Bee or anything. They were friends, sure, but she didn't get to see him enough to really expect to know every last secret the guy had. He had his own life, and he was busy with training the Terrans and everything else Optimus needed him to do all while keeping a low profile. Maybe when he could be out and about more maybe there'd be more chances to hang out, but then again she was also busy with Hot Rod now too.
Still there was a part of her that couldn't help but smile as the human boy asked her about Ratchet and if she'd met him. "Yeah, apparently Wheeljack got in contact with him and asked him to meet with me as a sort of favor or something. I've looked up to Ratchet for a long time. He's the best medic Cybertron's ever seen, and I really respect him for that. He's very busy as you'd expect, so the fact that he took time out of his own busy schedule just to meet with me even briefly was.. I don't even know. Amazing! I've got his commlink, but I only use it when I have to. I don't want to bother him if he's busy, but when I do send him messages I make sure he knows he doesn't have to get back to me right away. Just on his own time." Clematis started to walk to the back, pausing for a moment before turning around. "Oh. And I've read his essays five times each. Some even more than that."
The azure and lilac femme was a medic herself after all. Medical essays like Ratchet's were always worth studying.
"Anyway, follow me to the back. I can show you how I make medicine. It's a bit of a process, but hopefully it won't be too much for you."

Nick’s eyes widened as she described it.
Man if he wouldn’t give everything he had to meet Ratchet like that. Or well, most of the Autobots of the Ark for that matter. But as someone he strived to be like one day that was one that held a big place in his heart. While he probably could prod Bumblebee about it he also recognized that he couldn’t rely on him for all of that at the same time. He wanted to make it based on himself after all.
“I hope I get to meet him someday! I’d have like a billion questions to ask him,” Nick admitted with great honesty. “Honestly, even before dad took me in I was always kind of an Autobot fanboy. I run a YouTube channel and everything. Kind of crazy to think where I’m at now.” he then added. “I’ll have to work my way up to that though.”
He was quick to follow Clematis though, rather excited. “Don’t worry! I got this. I mean, I think I’m pretty smart sometimes,” He definitely didn’t want to sound cocky after all. “I just haven’t done a lot of this. I don’t know I hope I’m ready… I’m pretty sure I’m ready.”
He still had to work on the self confidence thing.

An Autobot fanboy with a YouTube channel that had a billion questions for Ratchet. Clematis could only picture the medic's reaction to that, and honestly she could see it going either way. Either Ratchet would be more than happy to take a few questions for the sake of learning, or he'd actively try his hardest to stay busy to avoid the Q&A. Ratchet was a pretty busy guy, so it didn't surprise Clematis that she didn't have the chances to meet with him very often. She'd just offline happy knowing she got to meet him even the once.
"Hey, don't sell yourself short. Everyone has to start from somewhere. Back on Cybertron you basically had to have a medical alt-mode just to become a medic, but there were those of us who got lucky every once in awhile through the academy and academic tests. Turned out I just had a knack for developing new possibilities through medicine and it worked out for me, but you humans are different. You aren't limited to what you can do just by how you appear like we were on Cybertron. You could honestly do just about anything if you tried hard enough and go through the right channels.. meet the right people. I think you guys are lucky that way." Not everyone on Cybertron was quite so lucky. There were those doomed to be miners and never see the sun and those stuck in positions that really just did not suit them just because of their alt-mode. It took a lot of hard work to make any sort of movement and even that wasn't guaranteed. Megatron, sadly, was one of the better examples. From miner to gladiator to politician.. One couldn't deny his feats even if he did make questionable choices.
At least he was working to redeem himself now, not that it made up for everything he did. Clematis at the very least felt he was trying to do the right thing. It was just.. strange.
The azure and lilac femme led Nick to the back of the pharmacy into a fairly decent sized room with all sorts of mechanical devices littered throughout the room as well as storage compartments. "So in here is where we made all of our medicine, but that's not all that we do back here. Over to your left there's a small training dummy." She gestured to her left and on a table was a somewhat standard Cybertronian-like body, albeit without arms or legs of it's own. It was attached to various ports in the wall as well as a moderately sized computer system. "It was originally designed for medics to learn how to operate in Cybertronian hospitals, but this one's been retrofitted so that we can test any medicine we're developing to ensure it's not harmful in anyway and has the desired effects. That way we aren't testing it on ourselves, and we have some control factor that simulates how it would react to our own bodies. The computer will tell us the results, and if there's any remaining 'issues' that need to be tended to such as side effects created by the medicine or something left untreated. Something left over from it's original programming, but definitely helpful either way."
Gesturing to the other side of the room, Clematis explained the machinery. "And that over there is what we use to actually develop the medicine. It tells us if components will actually work together or if they aren't compatible in the least. It's helpful to make sure we're not making something that has no effect at all, but we've got the training dummy to further test that too in case this failed. Wanna see me make something?"

Nick did agree but at the same time….
Well, humanity of course had its own prejudices. And with his disability sometimes Nick saw the absolute worst of it, he was sure of that. From the r word to other smaller slights. “Sometimes humans have that problem too. Like I have autism,” He decided to explain. “Some humans would say that someone with it shouldn’t be working in medicine. Not that I let it stop me. I have people who believe in me.”
Oh! Now that was cool.
Nick was definitely insanely interested in the dummy. Being able to actually test things on a dummy like that? And not just techniques? If they could learn how to do that with humans, he could only imagine how much better things might be in the medical field. He had to hold back his overt excitement and be more professional but did point out: “That dummy is so cool! Of course you guys figured out a way to do that,” He chuckled slightly. “It feels like Cybetronians always have the coolest tech at least.”
Did he want to see her make something? For Nick she might as well have asked him if the sky was blue. This time, he did bounce on his heels and bit and nod eagerly. “Heck yeah! That would be awesome,” He admitted. “I’ve never seen that kind of stuff in action before.”

As much as Clematis hated to, she did agree with Nick. She wanted to see the best in everyone, but even humans had their faults. It wasn't even just with Cybertronian hate in general, but with each other. Maybe that's why Cybertronians and humans got along so well. "Yeah. No offense to you of course, but I find that sometimes humans can be.. narrow minded. They have their idea of what the norm should be, and if it doesn't match their parameters they're quick to dismiss it. It's like they don't see that one day, you and everyone your age will be the ones in charge one day.. that they should be paving the way so you all can build upon it, yet they won't even take that first step. I really don't like thinking that way about people, but.. you're right. You have every right to thrive in this world just as much as they do." Frowning, she stopped to think for a moment. "You know.. thinking about it, isn't there a medical drama centered around a surgeon with autism? I know it's just a television show, but if something like that can exist I don't see why you couldn't be a doctor."
She really needed to catch up on her medical dramas.
As Nick gushed about how cool the dummy was, Clematis couldn't help but giggle a bit. "It is, isn't it? I'd like to think if anything our tech is helping to develop yours. I mean you guys finally got datapads figured out, or.. what do you call them again.. iPads? Something like that? Sure it's still leagues away from what we've built, but humans are getting there." Now if they could just get flying cars figured out. They'd joked about it for how long now and it was still a pipedream? That and bullet trains.
Still she was excited when Nick said he wanted to watch her make some medicine. "Right! Let's start with something easy. Hmm.. Ah! I know." Clematis walked over to one of the many cabinets, pulling out several bricks of yellowish wax before setting them down on the counter. "I need to stock some of this anyway, but I can show you how I make the ointment I developed for alloy hives. I'm not sure if you're familiar with Cybertronian illnesses, but it's a fairly minor to moderate one depending on severity." To demonstrate, the azure and lilac femme placed the digits of her left servo on her right arm before moving them in a scratching motion without actually doing so. "Alloy hives can sometimes happen when a bot is extremely stressed. Their plating will start to get really itchy and the paint will start to bubble and flake off if they scratch at it too much. Obviously that creates the potential for damaging the armor plating and in worst cases even giving it chances to rust with the environment here. There isn't a cure per se, but getting the stress down is ultimately what fixes it. What this ointment does is to help reduce the urge to scratch at the plating, and can help lower the stress as well."
Reaching back to the counter, Clematis held up one of the waxy bricks she'd previously sat down. "This is just a block of carnauba wax. We make it in bulk and then store it for when we need it. Makes it easier to just melt it back down rather than have to constantly make new batches for something small. Once it's melted, we're going to add some additives and reagents that'll transform this wax into something that'll help bots out there. Once we get the wax melted down, did you want to add the reagents in? Don't worry I'll make sure you know how much of what we need to put in there."

Nick nodded in agreement.
Honestly, Clematis put it better than he ever could in a way. Some people had looked at him different, really different. But the Autobots never had - so far they'd pretty much fostered his interets, and helped him with his dreams. Which was more than he could say for the humans, and was why he in some ways identified more with them. "That's why I prefer the Autobots sometimes, y'know? You guys get it," Nick explained. "I really struggled to fit in sometimes until dad showed up and helped me realize I wasn't "weird". I had friends, but sometimes I got weird looks. Now I've kind of embraced it." He then added. "Oh, and it's called "The Good Doctor" by the way, great show!"
True, iPads were cool - but Nick found that they were still a bit behind. So he did like to snaek into Bee's stuff once in a while. Plus, he got his own technology in the form of the sygil on his shoulder. "Yeah! We're getting there. Just really slowly," He admitted. "You guys still have the coolest tech even if you share. Like Wheeljack's cool sygils and stuff."
He was more quiet when Clematis was talking the medical jargin. Though he was very astute, some of the termiologies were new to him. Maybe even a little perplexing. It was remarkable to him how they had similar things in their biology sometimes - as humans were no strangers to hives. Even if this was definitely a different kind of hive. "Sure! I can give it a shot at least," He then added. "Er, as long as I don't get you in any trouble."
