Megatron has gone through a plethora of changes as an individual in his life, at times for the best, and at other times for the worst. There was a time that Megatron was a mech with a poet's heart, and revolutionary's vision, creative in mind and body and seeking equality and fairness on his home planet. He always had grand ideas, a kind spark, and firm hand, combined with a sharp tongue and strong, demanding presence, Megatron had all the qualities and traits of a good leader. He was not afraid to speak his mind, bold, brash, commanding and charismatic, a miner stuck in a position he otherwise should perhaps not have been. He was always a presence not hard to miss, voice strong as his stature showed.
But, frustration, violence, and anger are a powerful motivator. Much of what made Megatron so appealing as someone to follow was twisted and corrupted for many a millennia, falling into a tyrannical phase. Megatron's views became twisted, he became cruel, remorseless, merciless, and sadistic, caring for little more than conquest and destruction. Over time, Megatron became more enthralled in the feel for violence and blood lust, taking greater pleasure in the fear he could instill, the pain he could inflict, and the chaos he could sow. Conquest became absolute in his mind, Peace Through Tyranny became the motto of the Decepticon movement, a vision that quickly changed one fateful battle.
With a jarring optic opener, Megatron realized the monster he had become. After 30 years, Megatron's attitude has done a near 180, reverting back to the bot he had always envisioned himself to be when he was still a miner. Now, Megatron has become a bot of deep compassion and remorse, trying to right the wrongs he did with his past and often feeling the weight of his guilt on his spark. Megatron has been striving to be a better mech, an example and mentor to what can happen to those who stray too far to the dark as he did, showing a more patience, humble, and approachable manner than when he was the blood-stained, battle-worn warlord that he use to be. But, that isn't to say Megatron is without his temper and vices, much less still having a more cautious, at-arms-length view of the world compared to his fellow leader and friend, Optimus.

History:
Long before Megatron was known as the ruthless Decepticon leader and later a traitor to his own cause, he was once a lowly miner, someone within the lowest caste in Kaon one could get. With a sturdy build as his when he first came online, it seemed Megatron was only ever meant for one function, toiling in the mines for various resources, watching fellow miners fall where they worked or taken away when they seemed to cease functioning properly. Over time, the young Megatron became close to aged miner, Terminus, who became sort of a mentor and father figure as well as friends with such as those like Impactor. But, Megatron was never content with his lot in life, watching constantly the beatings, changes, and mistreatment of others by the guards, often writing to take out his frustrations, going to the nearby bars, speaking with Terminus, and trying his best to help others.
Frustration and anger continued to boil over, but Megatron tried to remain steadfast, eventually spreading his rebellious views via Terminus' encouragement, eventually coming into contact with a labor worker by the name of Orion Pax whom shared similar views with the miner. The two often spending hours upon hours speaking of changes and revolution, conversations that came to an abrupt halt when a riot erupted in the Kaon mines. Seeing a fellow miner beat for insubordination, Megatron's temper flared and he attacked the guard, seeing red to the point the guard's head became a bloody pulp, the first time Megatron had ever spilled blood. Horrified and in shock, Megatron barely processed for his mentor figure urging to run, finally snapping out of it and escaping the mines, eluding capture enough he went deeper into Kaon's corrupted underground. Here, Megatron had little choice but to join the underground gladiator scene for fear of being arrested if he ever to return to the mines.
It was here that Megatron discovered his natural talent for combat, and took advantage of the number of spectators. Slowly, he climbed the rankings, eventually becoming champion of Kaon's fighting pits, the start of his change of views and tyrannical ways. Here, Megatron not only became a deeper influence, but quickly established himself as an influential speaker, establishing the beginnings of the Decepticon movement and the start of a war on the High Council and Autobots who he viewed as the surpressors. What had started out with good intentions quickly became poisoned as Megatron became more and more intent on conquest than freedom, something that drastically changed the friendship he once help with Orion whom he eventually saw years later. But, they both were changed mechs, and it became clear Megatron would be forever be a different mech.
In the many millennia that would follow, Megatron became known as Cybertron's greatest and most ruthless warlord in recorded history, his Decepticon Empire plunging Cybertron into full-blown war, long after he had accomplished his original goals. Over time, he wanted more, he wanted to conquer, to see the cybertronian race have galactic control over anything and everything. Eventually, the fateful day came for the launching of the Ark, the Autobots' last hope to find much needed energy and survival elsewhere, something of which was brought to Megatron's attention from one of his most loyal followers, Soundwave. At the time, the Nemesis had been completed, meant to be the flagship for Megatron's coming empire and saw opportunity to make it known. During the battle of the Ark, an attack was led to initially attempt to delay the ship and destroy that hope, but when that failed the Nemesis was launched soon after, Megatron and his crew engaging the Autobots in a battle of ships and soon aboard the Ark itself. Unfortunately, the fight would be cut short, resulting from the crashing of both ships on a prehistoric Earth and knocking the combatants into stasis lock.
When 1984 rolled around, Mount St. Hillary erupted, awakening both crews and starting the war anew. Megatron strove to see his grand plans come to light, fighting the Autobots, especially Optimus, for the next 9 years trying to take what resources they could, establishing contact with their home via space bridge, and more, something of which changed during the fateful all-out brawl in 1993. During a climatic battle at the space bridge, Megatron was greatly wounded and beat, temporarily taken out by his long-time nemesis Optimus, but also fatefully met the human soldier, Dot Malto whom he was surprised to help Autobot and Decepticon alike, being told off by the woman when he harshly asked her why she was helping him. Getting an earful of his own, Megatron saw his optics opened for the first time, actually taking in what his actions had wrought for both sides, jarring the mech into reality of what he had become.
30 years later, Megatron has been struggling to become a new mech as a whole, striving to atone for a past he is no longer proud of but knows he will never truly be forgiven or can forgive on a deeper level. In these years, Megatron has allied himself with GHOST, the Autobots, and the Maltos, becoming an instructor and mentor to the younger generations, trying to become the mech he had always envisioned before his darker tendencies had taken root.
