Ah the sweet sounds of arguing, again.
Dylan had to give the guardian this time credit - for being a jerk, at least he lasted longer than he gave him. The kid never put up with jerks long, the tougher ones that he’d been with had taught him not to. But it definitely drove his social worker, Data; up a wall. He’d probably hear a mouthful from Ironhide again too.
More or less, he was tired of being bounced around. So he’d made up his mind to keep acting out until someone didn’t give up.
The best idea? Maybe not. But Dylan was stubborn as hell. So about thirty minutes into the shouting match between Data and his former guardian, he’d grabbed his skateboard and left. Even with how dark it was out, he didn’t care. He’d make it back before Data had to go out looking for him he added in his head.
Rolling along the streets of Autobot city, it was pretty obvious everyone was in for the day. Or out to eat. It almost made him scoff, all of it, his frustration, his own depression he sucked down into his gut again. Maybe it was time to run away…. He wouldn’t be the first guy, nor would he be the last. But Dylan couldn’t help but feel sometimes he was better on his own.
Kicking his board up, he sat himself down near a curb and huffed to himself. “Don’t do it Dylan, you know what Hide would say…” He grumbled under his breath. “Right when he was hauling you back.”
He slumped his backpack off his shoulders, giving a long, hard look at it. And weighing the thoughts in his mind. He’d been with the Autobots the longest without having a family - maybe it was time to take it as a sign.

It was a quiet night in Autobot City. Hot Rod was just taking a casual drive in the city lights in his Dodge Viper vehicle mode.
He was feeling really good right now. After spending the last several years traveling around Earth and bouncing from place to place it was good to be with his friends- No. His family again. He loved racing across the planet but it was more than time for him to come back to the Autobots.
Besides. They were probably gonna need his help with all the Decepticons on the loose. Part of Hot Rod missed kicking Decepticon tailpipe.
As he drove through the city Hot Rod saw that kid from last month. Dylan was it?
He was pretty sure he wasn't supposed to be up so late.
Hot Rod transformed and walked up behind the young human.
"Hey Kid."

Dylan nearly jumped out of his skin.
After all this time, people sneaking up behind him still definitely startled him. Though he thankfully no longer went into the full blown panic attacks he had started out with. He at first had imagined it was probably Data showing up with some big spiel as usual.
Instead he found the guy with the terrible pick up lines. Hot Rod? Yeah he was pretty sure that’s what Prime had called him.
What he was doing out at this late of an hour was just about anyone’s guess. Though as an adult he probably had more reason to be out here, didn’t he? “Oh uh, hey,” He raised an eyebrow in pure curiosity. “‘Aren’t you out a little late’? I am by the way. It’s fine do it all the time.”
How many times had someone asked him that after all?

Hot Rod gave a short laugh. This kid probably thought he was in trouble.
"Relax kid I'm not gonna tell on you."Hot Rod assured, "I'd be a total hypocrite if I did.".
"Also, hello? I'm a giant robot? I don't work on the same recharging scheduling you humans do."
"But I could ask you the same question" Hot Rod pointed out. "What are you doing out here?"

Fair.
Dylan guessed he could relax at least a bit at that notion. Thought he still felt a bit… Tense? Dylan always felt tense because most of the time people would try to butt in - but still. If the mech wasn’t going to try to talk him into anything he guessed that he could entertain his company.
Then the question still came…
A part of him wanted to say none of his business. But at the same time, Dylan didn’t like to be bitter. So he guessed he would be honest. “Thinking about booking it. I got kicked out of another home - not that it was a great one,” He admitted with the honesty only a ten year old could have. “Starting to feel like I could do this better on my own… No offense to you guys.”
He stared up at the night air, deep in thought. “But I’ve been in this program the longest of anyone I’ve known. I’ve seen dozens of kids go to homes. I’m over it,” It was just the honest truth by this point. “I figure if I get myself running messages or something downtown I can at least have a start.”
He then added. “Either way, I’m not the five year old that had daydreams about moving in and being the next Optimus Prime or Wrecker, y’know? I’m starting to think that doesn’t happen to kids like me.” it was more blunt than anything

Hot Rod looked downcast.
He didn't know much about this kid but from what he could tell he seemed to have a really troubled past. He wasn't sure what to do exactly.
Hot Rod turned to the kid looking as sincere as he could"Look...erm Dylan right?"
"I know it's hard right now. I can't say I relate fully given how we Cybertronians evolve and spend our developing years.".
"But you've got your whole life ahead of you to do amazing things. You don't have to be the next "Optimus Prime" or the next "Wrecker" to be awesome."
"Take it from me a guy who's been in countless races and won most of them. It can feel like an uphill battle but if you endure the storm and come out the other side it'll be worth it."

Dylan wanted to believe the mech, in all honesty.
After all, he'd love to live in a world, in his mind, that didn't kick people like him down. But he also had seen the absolute worst of society, sometimes from both sides. He knew that despite all the encouragement he might get, there were still those that looked at him like there was something wrong with him - like there always would be. He rubbed his knees carefully and decided to word it in a way that didn't come off as shrugging off the mech, or at least wasn't trying to.
"I know that's true. But sometimes I think it isn't about me," Dylan admitted honestly. Though he wished he wasn't sincere in his thoughts, it had been carried with him for so long... "The things that I went through... I hear lots of survivor stories. But I don't know how they do it. Maybe they're bigger or tougher."
A chill ran up his spine, he was definitely not getting into what had been done to him. That was for sure. But he definitely had read those stories. A lot of them with envy and suspicion. "I don't know, always feels like maybe Primus put me on my own for a reason." He finally voiced.

Hot Rod was a little taken aback.
"Primus?"he asked. "Why's a human talking about Primus?"

Dylan was surprised that Hot Rod was surprsied.
But then again, did he ever encounter a human raised by Bots? Dylan had, after all, been taken in by them in his very formative years so he didn't actually know a ton about human culture. They knew things like they had their own God, and their own schools and stuff. But most of his memories were from strictly Autobot City, but most of the time it was the humans it threw off. But...
"I mean, I'm human, but the 'Bots took me in when I was five," Dylan pointed out to him. "I didn't really grow up on human stuff like the other kids here. And my dad didn't teach me slag when I was with him."
He shuddered, not sure he wanted to know what he'd teach him if he did.

If Dylan expected Hot Rod to calm down he didn't.
"You were raised by Autobots!?" Hot Rod asked in disbelief.
"But that's...I...what?!" Hot Rod struggled to wrap his mind around the concept. He hated sounding like some sort of bigot but the concept of humans adopting Cybertronian culture was a little strange to him.
Then again he had adopted a bit of human culture so maybe it wasn't that strange. But Dylan didn't seem like he was familiar with human culture at all. Maybe that's the thing that made it so weird to Hot Rod.
"What the heck did I miss these past few years?" he muttered.

TW: Abuse mention.
Dylan looked equally surprised he didn’t know about that.
Hadn’t it been common knowledge kids like him existed ever since Wheeljack adopted that guy, Dane? Maybe it was one of those situations where Hot Rod fell out of the loop, but it still kind of amused him that anyone was that surprised. “Yeah, I uh… They got me out of my dad’s house when I was little;” he elaborated. “My dad was a really bad guy. The kind of stuff nightmares are made of.”
What had he missed? Apparently a lot. “Well, a lot I guess. There’s this thing called “The Reunification Program”. They place kids like me with Cyberronians and families.” He then added. “I’m just one of the unlucky ones.”

Hot Rod's gave the young human a sympathetic look.
"...I see... I'm sorry..." Hot Rod said.
There wasn't much he could do right now.
"Look just...hang in there kid okay? You'll find the right family someday. I can feel it"
