Optimus Prime raced across the court dribbling the basketball. He jumped and he managed to hit the rim and the ball fell in.
He got it just like the humans did in those Basketball games he watched.
He wished he could take some pride in this. But he didn't.
His mind was elsewhere. It had been half a year since the Decepticon breakout and it still bothered him. Who knows how many Decepticons were out there on the loose? And what they could do to the people of Earth.
Earth was looking like it was in trouble again.
And if he hadn't destroyed the Space Bridge this wouldn't be happening...

Hot Rod took in the sights. Bumblebee was right Autobot City was a sight to behold.
He just hoped G.H.O.S.T. didn't take too much issue with the fact he wasn't technically aligned with them.
As he walked down the city streets Hot Rod heard the sound of a basketball dribbling.
"Who's playing Basketball at this hour?" Hot Rod muttered to himself.
When he got to the court he found a familiar face.
Another face he was happy to see.
Hot Rod ran over to the court.
"Optimus! Hey!"he shouted.

Optimus turned. He knew that voice. And it was a voice he was glad to see.
"Well. If it isn't Hot Rod. It's good to see you again." Optimus said happily. "Where have you been all this time? We could have used your help for the past five years"
He hated saying it like that. He didn't want to make it seem like he was angry at Hot Rod for traveling. He had done more than enough during the war and he had earned a rest. But it was a valid question.

Dylan was bored. Definitely bored.
Summer vacation was here though, and that was a treat. It was the one time of year that he didn’t have to spend tons of time in the group home or whatever guardian he was stuffed with. He was tired of the lot of it, even at ten. Not that he wasn’t forever grateful to the Autobots for saving him from the hellhole he lived in. But being one of the kids who hadn’t been placed in five years tended to be a drag.
So he decided to get his mind off things with some ball.
Sometimes skateboarding just didn’t do the trick. And given he’d started playing ball for the better part of a couple of years, that served as a good alternate release to both painting and skating. Upon arrival however, he already noticed Optimus Prime, and some other mech… He didn’t think he’d met him before but could have been wrong.
Unlike most kids, Dylan had passed into enough hands that he’d at least run into Prime. Though he didn’t know him personally, he generally did not gawk like others. Skidding his board to a stop, he spun his ball with one finger carefully before adding. “Optimus Prime is shooting hoops? I thought that one was a myth. Color me surprised,” he joked. “I wouldn’t think you’d get enough of a break from paperwork.”

Hot Rod looked ashamed. He knew Optimus didn't mean to make him feel guilty but somehow he did.
"I've been traveling. Competing in races, you know all that-" he was interrupted when a human child walked up.
"Uh...hi..." Hot Rod said awkwardly.
He didn't do good around kids.

Optimus looked down at the human child who had just arrived.
"This isn't the best time but hello there...erm...Dylan was it?" Optimus said. His name had crossed his desk a few times. A child who had been orphaned via a variety of tragic circumstances.
Optimus remembered his mom. How much of an ally to the Autobots she'd been. Sometimes the deaths via random tragedy hurt more than the deaths of those that died in battle.
"It is a pleasure to see you."he greeted "As you know I am Optimus Prime. And this is one of my fellow Autobots Hot Rod.".

Ah, Hot Rod. Dylan was pretty sure he had heard the name thrown around before. So if anything it was a reputation thing.
Not that being a bad time ever deterred the kid. But he was a bit more mature for his age and could also respect him. It did make him feel good to know that Prime at least remembered his name though… He just hoped it wasn’t for the miriad of trouble that he had caused… However minor.
“Sorry to interrupt, really. I’m just here blowing off steam anyway so don’t mind me. Besides I got try-outs this year for an actual team,” Dylan laughed a little. He did, however give Hot Rod a once over and admit. “Digging the paint job though. Welcome to Autobot City.”
Without much more thought; he aced one shot from a slightly impressive distance. Though he wouldn’t admit it outright he was definitely listening in on what the two were saying, after all gossip and busy-bodying were two things kids did well.

"It is a pleasure to meet you in person Dylan Logan." Optimus responded.
Optimus turned back to Hot Rod letting Dylan have the court to himself for a bit.
"Hot Rod you do not have to feel ashamed for being gone for so long. You deserved some time to yourself. We all do."

When Dylan complimented his paint job Hot Rod beamed. "Well, thanks. Picked it myself back on Cybertron."
He turned back to Optimus after this. "Yeah. I know. But I feel like I missed a lot. A lot I could have helped out with."he moaned.
"But I'm here now. I'm gonna try to help out as best I can. With the Terrans and the Decepticons. Besides. The racing scene around Witwicky seems pretty sweet."
The pair were interrupted when they heard the sound of a basketball shot landing. Hot Rod turned and saw a successful Dylan.
"Nice shot kid" he complimented.

Clematis sighed to herself as she walked around Autobot City. It'd been a pretty long day at Cyber-Remedies preparing for the next large order she was supposed to deliver to G.H.O.S.T. HQ within the next few days. She dreaded even going there and it had only been half a year since the breakout had even happened. Still, as long as they weren't preparing to declare her a traitor or anything then that was a good thing. Even half a year later she still had so much conflict in her spark and not even Wheeljack's advice had helped a whole lot. She wanted to remain loyal to the Autobots, but she couldn't just abandon Nightshroud either. Her twin was finally happy and she wanted to do everything she could to keep her that way even if from afar, but if the Autobots knew about it then she might just be seen as a traitor anyway.
She'd considered taking a walk through the park to clear her processor a bit. The metallic flowers mixed with the organic ones were always such a calming sight, but something else had caught her attention before she could reach the park. A familiar figure stood in the basketball court with a bot she didn't know along with a human.
Optimus Prime.
Optimus Prime.. was playing basketball.
Clematis silently cursed herself when she saw the leader of the Autobots. She'd been trying to dodge him to avoid the awkward conversation of what had happened during the jailbreak from her perspective, but here he was now and he wasn't alone. It was going to be much more difficult to avoid him this time, but she was going to have to bite the bullet and just talk to him eventually anyway. With any luck maybe Wheeljack had given him that datastick that Starscream had given her. Deciding to just go for it, the azure and lilac femme stood just outside the entrance of the basketball court before speaking up shyly. "Is.. there room for one more?"
She definitely didn't know how to play basketball.

Hot Rod turned around.
"Yeah of course there's room for one mor-" Hot Rod paused.
There in front of him was a very nice looking female Autobot.
"Well...hello there..."Hot Rod said.
Yeah that's it he thought to himself. Time to turn on the charm.
"You know I've been with the Autobots a long time but I've never met a bot as good looking as you."
Dang it. That was so generic. Must be out of practice.

Optimus sighed. He liked Hot Rod. He had been one of his best soldiers. He had a lot of potential as a leader.
If only he could stop being so Primus-blasted immature.
"Hot Rod. Please. Don't make the bot uncomfortable." he scolded.
He turned to the new arrival to the court. "I'm sorry for any inconvenience. Erm Clematis was it?"
Optimus really wished he hadn't been so busy lately. It felt like he had a lot of catching up to do.
"You are welcome to join us if you're interested.".

Dylan smirked a bit proud of himself for the shot. “It’s nice to finally meet you too, Prime.”
Then again, it wasn’t his first time on the court. Or last. But it was still nice to hear “Nice shot.” once in a while. He stretched a bit as he caught his ball and shrugged. “Thanks. Hopefully I can keep it up. I’m hoping they’ll have me placed in time for school. Bus schedule for the home makes getting to practice a pain in the ass.” Blunt, but true. Not that he had any doubt they’d get him with someone. It was the staying he was bad at.
He raised an eyebrow as he heard a femme enter the court. Nice; the more the merrier he guessed.
But he could barely keep a straight face when Hot Rod attempted to flirt. Key word, attempted in Dylan’s mind. While he was no expert on romance - even he knew a faceplant when he saw one. “Dude, please tell me that wasn’t your actual pick up line,” He finally replied. “You might as well have asked if it hurt when she fell from Heaven.”

Clematis stood there dumbfounded, blinking several times as she felt her faceplate heat up. Did this Hot Rod guy just.. did he just attempt to flirt? With her?
It was an almost instant blue screen of death moment until Optimus spoke up, apologizing for Hot Rod's choice of words. It seemed even the human had something to say about it as he claimed the other mech could've done a better job with pickup lines. It wasn't even that bad of one. The femme just didn't expect it and she wouldn't have necessarily called herself good looking or anything. Just average in her processor but to each their own. Why fret with appearances outside of what was necessary when there were other things to worry about like you spark twin's safety and getting that order ready for G.H.O.S.T. At least the latter of which was the easier one.
Clematis sheepishly chuckled before speaking. "Thanks, I.. um.. Yeah I'm Clematis. It's nice to meet you Hot Rod and, uh.. I don't think I caught your name." The azure and lilac femme glanced down to the snarky human, tilting her helm a bit.
"Admittedly I know nothing about basketball, but I figured I'd say hi at least. And I'm almost done with that supply order, Optimus, and then I'll bring it over to G.H.O.S.T. HQ." It was just her regular supply order; The one that she was contractually obligated to do since she herself didn't align with the human organization. It ensured she still played her part in keeping the Autobots healthy even if it was just a supply of medicine and vaccines for the on-site medics to use as well as the medical armor waxes she made. The latter was more of a gift than anything, but she'd insisted that everything she brought be used to treat the imprisoned Decepticons as well.
