Nick was nervous as hell.
As far as he knew, the Malto's were handling things with their dad today. But Nick had never once, in his entire life celebrated Father's Day. It had taken some convincing to even get him to get the courage to do anything, honestly. Sure, he was calling Bee "dad" now, and for all intents and purposes they'd passed the awkward first stages. But he didn't even know where to begin with giving Bee gifts... So Robby and Dot had convinced him to give him something from his heart, and something they could do together.
It was the gift from his heart he was most worried about.
He knew that he didn't want to be a Weyland anymore. But for obvious reasons, when he got adopted they couldn't change it, not without tipping off GHOST at least. So he'd had Dot help him get the paperwork for a name change, which still meant he'd officially change his last name to "Bee" but draw way less attention. But what if Bee didn't want him to have his last name? Maybe it was stupid. Dot had assured him that it didn't hurt to ask and most adopted parents were honored by things like this.
All the same, as he entered Bee's room in the base in the morning - he took a deep breath. At least they'd have a good time at the race, right?
"Daddddd, are you awake!?" He called out with a grin. "Happy Father's Day!"
He was keeping the envelope with the paperwork and the tickets tight in his hand. But kept a mischievous grin on his face as he did. He was sure to carefully move the Energon cube the Terran’s had carried for him inside too. Heavy even though it was only a few inches that he pushed it.

Bee just wanted to recharge a little bit longer.
The previous day had been a long one with training and scouting, and as much as he didn't want to admit it he did kinda need the rest and energon. Despite his wishes that just wasn't in the cards today as the sound of Nick shouting woke him up. Bumblebee's optics shot open as he practically jumped, startled by the shouts. Just a little tick from the war, making him prepared quickly should the need arise and thankfully that wouldn't be needed today.
Though what Nick suggested was a bit curious.
"Father's Day?" The scout vaguely knew the term from the days of old, hearing Spike mention it about his father Sparkplug once or twice. He didn't exactly know what a 'Father's Day' was, but he knew there was a Mother's Day. The Terrans had already tried to celebrate it with Dot and maybe that meant they were about to try the same thing with Alex. Hopefully it wouldn't involve any random bear cubs or Nightshade trying to tinker with Dot's prosthetic leg. "You mean that's today?" Definitely trying to play it cool and hide the fact that he didn't know what one really did on this day.

Nick felt a little bad making Bee jump.
Then again, this was why they needed today - Bee was under so much stress lately! A day out just the two of them was something long overdue. And as someone who has stepped up as a parent, Bee deserved to enjoy his Father’s Day in peace.
He was smart enough to tell Bee didn’t know much either, so he came over and added. “Yep! You get a whole day just for you now, big guy! I mean, I hope it’s ok I went a little all out,” Nick replied. “… I just you’ve done so much for me. I wanted to make it really special.”
He traced his fingers along the envelope, and considered if he should ask now. But nervousness and better thinking, made him decide he’d bring that present up when he had better woken up.
”So I got Wheeljack and his friend Clematis to take care of the Terrans all day and give you a break and real “you” time,” Nick then proceeded to go into his back pocket. “And I got us front row seats to that NASCAR race you’ve been talking about…”
God, he hoped Bee liked his surprise, his eyes filled with nervousness as he tried to keep calm. Even if Bee didn’t get the concept - it didn’t mean he didn’t want to make this special. As one of the few times he could genuinely thank Bee for well… Everything and make it count.
Plus, with Dane overseas for a bit he knew Wheeljack would enjoy the distraction.

Bumblebee had so much on his plate that it was becoming quite difficult to juggle it all. He had the Terrans he was responsible for, running secret missions for Optimus Prime and now taking care of Nick. Not even just that but the Decepticons had broken out of G.H.O.S.T. jail just several months ago and that was only adding onto the secret missions from the Prime. If it weren’t for others offering to help train the young Maltobots he didn’t know how he was going to be able to manage it all.
So when Nick suggested having a whole day just for him, Bee didn’t know how to take that. He had so much work that he needed to get done so how was he going to have time? This was what he was afraid of, but Nick seemed to already be a step ahead of him. Wheeljack was subbing in with Terran training, and he’d brought Clematis with him.
“Wheeljack and Clematis, huh? One of these days I’ll have to introduce you to her. She’s nice.” Nice and she got along with Hashtag from what he understood back when the jailbreak had happened. He’d heard everything from the young Terran about Starscream, and he’d even offered to let Clematis stay at the dugout for a bit during the aftermath when she wasn’t busy with work. Making medicine for the medics and others who needed it was pretty busy work and someone had to do it.
Before he could think more about it, Nick unleashed a whole new surprise that he had not expected. Optics widened as the boy explained that he had acquired not just tickets to the upcoming NASCAR race, but front row tickets at that! “Nick, I.. I don’t know what to say.”
How was he even gonna attend? The initial shock made him forget about the holoavatar for a moment, but it eventually clicked that he could use that projection to move away from his own metal body. It was designed to go pretty far, and surely the distance between parking and the stadium would be well within those parameters. “I’m gonna have to change up my holoform a little bit, but we’re gonna have to leave now if we wanna get decent parking. I’m not having you walk ten miles just cause that was the closest parking spot we could get.”
Right.. Parking usually cost money for these things, didn’t they? “You, uh.. got enough money to cover parking?”

Nick felt himself brighten up more.
He’d done good…? Oh thank god, the last thing that Nick wanted was for Bee to have a bad reaction to this after all. When it came down to it, this was about making him happy after all. Bee had done so much for Nick, for all of them really and it mattered more to him that it was a day he could enjoy - one way or another.
“Oh! I’d love to meet more of your friends, honestly,” Nick replied as Bumblebee suggested introducing him to Clematis. “I mean I only really have met Ironhide and Wheeljack. But they’re really cool. Especially Ironhide, and I’m not just saying that because he let me see his cannons.”
When Bumblebee mentioned that he didn’t know what to say? The next words came out in a way that almost made him freeze in his tracks. They hadn’t even talked about the subject yet and yet… “You don’t have to say anything, dad,” he explained. “I love you and I just wanted to make this special…”
The words went though Nick’s head in shock. Had he just told Bumblebee he loved him? Stop. Pump the breaks. What had? Nick had never even used that phrase before. He tried to dial back his anxiety, letting Bee go on about getting parking spaces and all… When he’d snapped himself out of it. He realized Bee had addressed him.
Oh right, Bee didn’t know about his connections yet. How to reply to that without looking suspicious? “Relax and have the Energon I brought you. I’ll go finish getting ready. I have it all worked out.” He insisted.

Wait..
What did Nick just say?
That was the first time that Bumblebee had heard Nick say that he loved him, and Bee felt a little bad that he didn't quite know what to do. Should he say it back? Do the Han Solo 'I know'? Even Nick looked caught off guard by the whole thing, and that just made things much more confusing for Bumblebee as his optics shifted around the room a couple times. The scout was still new to this whole being a dad thing and still didn't quite know what it was he was doing. He'd taken the big brother approach, and here the kid was.. celebrating father's day and by letting an 'I love you' slip out. Bee hesitated probably a bit longer than he should have, and he kept arguing back and forth about what he should do or say. It wouldn't hurt, right? "I, uh.. love you too?"
Close enough.
Either way they needed to hit the road otherwise they weren't gonna make it in time. "Alright, alright. Just don't take too long, okay?" Bumblebee picked up the energon, taking a sip of it hoping that Nick wouldn't be long.

Nick’s heart stopped.
Bee had just said it back? Nick of course knew Bee was nervous about all of this. Kids were perceptive and he was no exception. Nick felt slightly embarrassed as a tear rolled down his cheek. Maybe because he was the first person to ever say it to him. “I… Sorry I just,” Nick paused a moment. “First time anyone’s ever…”
Steeling himself a little, he straightened. Right, get ready. God Nick don’t become an emotional wreck!
He took a jog toward his room.
Thankfully he was quick at these sort of things. But his mind still swirled over his own thoughts… Bee loved him. Loved him enough to say it back. It was such a good feeling but also rocked him more than he had thought it would. It also gave him a newfound confidence about today, after all. When he’d gathered everything he needed and changed he showed back up having collected himself and grinned eagerly. “Alright, let’s do this! I’m so psyched! I’ve never been to a real race before,” he admitted. “I mean I’ve been to plenty of street races but this is my first time at a real track.”

Bumblebee wasn't quite sure what he was expecting, but Nick suddenly crying definitely didn't make the list. Just as he raised a digit to ask what the matter was, Nick explained. It was because no one had ever told him he'd loved him before which Bee had a hard time wrapping his processor around. Maybe it was just because as a Cybertronian who'd been around for four million years during a time of war where there wasn't exactly time for that sort of thing, maybe he didn't realize just how important it was to be loved when you were a human that averaged eighty years or so for their life expectancy. It made their lives seem so short, so maybe that's why those kind of feelings were a bigger thing for them.
Or it could just be because Bee was born during a civil war that destroyed their planet. One of the two.
Soon Nick snuck off to his room and quickly returned ready to go. "Alright. We're gonna have to book it to make it with plenty of time to spare." Bumblebee transformed into vehicle mode, opening his passenger door so Nick could climb inside. Once he was in he rolled out of the barn and sped down the road to try and not wake the others."

Nick smirked, hopping right in without much more of a thought.
A part of him had thought that maybe it was the right time to ask Bee his question. BUT at the same time, he also knew that they had to book it, like Bee said. And maybe while he was in an emotional tailspin of sorts wasn't the best time to approach Bee. Why overwhelm him with like a dozen more emotions to deal with, right? "Yeah, definitely should get going. Don't worry though, we should make it. Just gotta make sure we go into the right entrance," Honestly he was a little curious to see exactly how Bee reacted to what part they were going into. That was a big revelation for the day. "It's where the racers and their families usually do... We uh... Are sort of invited guests I guess you can say?"
How did he explain to Bee that he'd kept a connection to NASCAR under his hat so to speak? Well, he might as well come out with it right? "Look, before we go in there, you should know. My uncle was "the" David Weyland... He and..." He hesitated to say "dad" because at this point the man was a glorified sperm donor. "Well, you probably know Uncle Dave. He was a huge name back in the day... His brother is big too. Difference is one of them dropped out to raise me."
They weren't getting into that. "That's actually how I got the tickets. Uncle David's old crew chief is working the track today."
