If there was something that Spinoff well and truly despised, it would be repairing things. They were never really good with their hands- Unless you counted the typing they needed to do to communicate. Which they'd probably be doing right now, if their device hadn't decided to just fizzle out and die in the middle of a log entry. They huffed and sat against a particularly large rock. They had originally come to the woods to study some of the local animals, but of course, fate had other plans.
Opening a compartment in their chassis, Spinoff dumped a variety of tools onto the earth beneath them and got to work. If they were lucky, they could fix the device up and complete their log entry before a human found them. Or worse, an Autobot.

Wheeljack was just out for a walk.
At least, that's what he told himself as he was taking his stroll. Honestly, it was his day off, and Dane had insisted that he get himself out of the house and office and do something for himself. Believe it or not, Wheeljack did love nature, or at least he enjoyed nature walks. Observing the plant and animal life was kind of a fun passtime. So, he'd finally relented and gone for a walk.
He hadn't expected to get some weird energy signature out here.
Huh, a comm device? This deep in the woods? On one hand, he shouldn't have decided to go looking. But on the other, a little snooping never hurt anyone right? So he followed the source of the signal quietly. "I think it should have been somewhere around here..." He noted, probably a little too loudly.

Spinoff felt their spark drop deep into their chassis. Were they hearing things, or was there somebody else out here? Surely, their energon levels weren’t so low that they were hallucinating again? No, they had taken some the other day. To their dismay, there was well and truly another being in the woods.
In their ever growing panic, Spinoff placed their wrench on the ground and shakily stood. Maybe, they thought, if they moved fast enough, then they’d be able to get away unscathed. They’d be leaving their tools behind, but they could always just makeshift some more out of scrap metal. Or steal them, whichever opportunity came first.
Without thinking, they moved in a random direction- Right into Wheeljack’s line of sight. Not bothering to check their surroundings, they continued to move forward, as clueless as ever to the inventor behind them. The Decepticon insignia on their back shone in the sunlight.

Wheeljack was a little startled to find that Spinoff was running in his direction.
Of course, he hadn't exactly expected for someone to do that, heck he hadn't even expected anyone to show up at all. And yet here he was. With some sort of... Decepticon? Wheeljack couldn't really tell from this distance, but he had a feeling they were a Decepticon anyway. Scratching his helm, he had to wonder what the pit they were doing for that matter. "Primus, I just can't seem to get a break can I?" He asked himself.
Holding up a hand and giving chase, he decided he may as well figure out what they were doing there. And if they were a danger to anyone the way they were running. "Hey! Wait up!"

Primus. This was a mistake. And one they could’ve avoided so easily, in so many ways! They could’ve gone somewhere else to write their logs, or just stayed hidden in that cave they found earlier and not gone out at all. They could’ve just sat still and waited for the stranger to leave, they could’ve…
No, no, no! There were no use dwelling on what could’ve been; it was illogical. Yes, the proper way to do this, Spinoff thought to themselves, was to try their best to escape without damaging their paint.
Unfortunately, their best involved them tripping over their own pedes, faceplanting directly into the Earth below with a clang.
Spinoff sighed into the ground. It seemed there was no way around it. They didn’t bother to move at all- They simply waited for their inevitable death and/or arrest.

Yikes…
Did they really just faceplant? Honestly, Wheeljack couldn’t figure out what this Bot was so afraid of anyway! It wasn’t like he was an intimidating mech, if anything he was too nice at times. Or so Dane said. Most of the time he thought he was a little on the aloof side with others but not mean by any means.
Either way, he decided to approach and offer a servo? Maybe they just needed to see that he wasn’t a threat? He didn’t know. “Uh, are you good there? Ye look like you took a nasty fall.”

Wait. What’s going on? Why are there no blaring sirens? No helicopters piloted by GHOST, no armed humans telling them to surrender quietly??
They do hear a voice, but it seems… friendly? Spinoff looks up to see Wheeljack’s servo and squints at the gesture. Is this a trick of some kind? It has to be. Surely, nobody, bot or human, would ever help a Decepticon, not after all they did to Earth.
Hesitantly, they take his offer and pull themselves off. After dusting themselves off, they begin to look him up and down- Only to stop once they see his insignia. Almost immediately, their wings droop downwards, and their posture stiffens. How wonderful this predicament was, embarrassing themselves in front of an Autobot…
They look to their communication device, then back at Wheeljack. It appeared to be working somewhat fine now, but was it appropriate to be polite to a former enemy?? Their servo hovers over the keyboard for a short while before they type.
“Yes, well… I got frightened. One klik I’m writing a log entry, the next- Well, you already saw.”
They punctuate this with an awkward smile. They pray to all things good that the other can’t hear their cooling fans beginning to whirr into overdrive.

Frightened? Of him?
Wheeljack almost had to hold back a belly laugh about that. After all, he was hardly the most intimidating mech ever. If anything, he'd sort of gotten lazier and laid back in his years away from the battlefield. But then again, it wasn't that big a stretch that seeing anyone out in these parts of the woods might have at least startled an individual so Wheeljack did feel a pang of sympathy toward the bot.
Either way, he rubbed the back of his neck and nodded. "Sorry about that. I guess I should be a little more subtle in my approach. Honestly, that's never been my specialty," He told the bot honestly. "So what are you working on there anyway?"

Spinoff holds up the arm that their device to attached to in order to show the Autobot. It’s in decent condition, for something that just crashed to the ground alongside them, but overall it’s not exactly great. They’re surprised it worked at all when they typed into it earlier. They’re not sure if they’ll willing to risk more damage by typing into it more, but there is a conversation going on… It seems they’ll have to take the gamble.
“My communication device.” Their wings flutter in relief when typing this doesn’t make it explode. “I am unable to talk like others do, so I just type, and then… Words! It wasn’t working before, but then I fell, and now it’s active again, like you see right now, so now I’m wondering if I should’ve even tried to repair it in the first place…”
They inwardly roll their optics at themselves. Was it too late to keep running for it? They still have a feeling that they’re going to end up arrested, and this interaction is not helping their worries.

Huh. That was interesting.
Wheeljack knew that some humans did that too, actually. He’d worked with one kid who could only communicate that way due to his disability. But he’d never actually heard of a Bot doing that, despite being machines. He guessed it was inevitable and maybe they were even inspired by that?
“That’s interesting - were you inspired by the human invention?” He asked. “I know a little boy that speaks the same way.”
He tapped his chin. “What trouble were you having with it though?”
