It was Ten AM by human reckoning, the day after he'd signed up to be part of the Reunification and requested Dylan as his human partner. If he was going to find out about the shared history between humans and Transformers and the mysteries of this Earth which he had only shared with one other being, he figured he should have a connection to a human. Dylan also needed a friend, someone to connect to, and who could help him on the path to doing the right thing.
He didn't want to wait and see another friend walk the wrong path. He'd long since learned to listen to his instinct coprocessor, and treat people as he saw them. He saw Dylan as a young man who only needed a gentle nudge and a helping hand. And he was a young man who could help him understand humans better.
But for the moment, since he was here at HQ anyway, he might as well practice. Drawing his laser carbine, he set the weapon to low power, shouldering it and looking down the sight. Center the target. Pull the trigger.
His cogitator was firing fully now. What if he was correct? What if the children, or the Terrans, could lead him to this cave? What would he find? Would he be destroyed just by going in for having been part of the war?
Center the target, pull the trigger. Focus those optics.
What if that transwarp pulse hadn't been a weapon, but a warning? What if his crash landing was meant as a message of 'don't touch this world' to the other Transformers? But if it was left, who would have done it? And why so close to raw energon?
Center the target, pull the trigger. Open your intake manifold, let the air process, then open the gas exhaust.
For that matter, how was there raw energon here of all places? And what happened to it in the time between then and his awakening? Could it have had to do with the Ark?
To an outside observer, Skyfire was calmly, deliberately, shooting targets. He was a bit less accurate on the smaller Basic size targets that barely reached his knee, but especially as he reached his own Ultra class, he was bullseyeing targets with ease. And it might not be immediately obvious that the old scientist was lost in thought.

G.H.O.S.T. HQ was not Clematis' favorite place to be. It wasn't the Autobot element, nor was it the human one. It was just that reminder that somewhere in this place many Decepticons were being locked up potentially for the rest of their lives. Yes she knew many had done horrific things, but was this really the best way of handling things? She couldn't help but feel like this was a cruel way of going about things, yet at the same time knew others felt differently. She could voice her concerns all she wanted, but at the end of the day this was Optimus Prime's choice along with the agents of G.H.O.S.T.
Regardless of her feelings, the azure and lilac femme had come here today in order to run medicine up to the Autobots at the base. Some of which she knew would go to the Decepticons prisoners if they were in need of medical care, but that didn't bother her much. At the end of the day, saving lives was far more important and Clematis wanted to do everything she could to help even if it was just a little bit. As she walked through the halls of G.H.O.S.T. HQ, she carried a crate with her containing the medicine she was transporting as well as some samples she was working on. Clematis had been experimenting with waxes designed to keep one's armor looking good, but she had added scents to them to make them smell nice. While most of which were floral scents she did have a small variety for those who wanted something different.
New Earth car smell had been the hardest.
Passing through the base, Clematis stopped once she neared the training room when she heard someone in there. Peeking inside she spotted a mech she didn't know, but Primus he was huge! He had to have been at least twice her height, and that was considering she was just barely shorter than Bumblebee. The femme decided to step into the room, watching the tall mech fire upon the targets. Should she bother them or should she just leave them alone? Holding the crate close to herself, Clematis chose the former option before approaching.
"Hi. Mind if I join you?"

A feminine voice broke Skyfire from his reverie. He'd been thinking about going to the Ark and seeing if Ratchet and Wheeljack had left any of Teletraan-1's data tapes in place. If anything was there, they might have picked up some data on any of the strange things he'd noticed.
He turned somewhat abruptly, lowering his gun with an awkwardly quick motion. She was small, around Bumblebee's size. He shook his head with an abrupt smile. "Ah, no, I don't mind at all. Just doing some simple target practice."
It was obvious that she'd interrupted his internal cogitation, but he was trying to be friendly.

Oh scrap! Had she accidentally startled the tall bot? The mech had shifted his attention from the targets to her rather quickly, saying he didn't mind at all. What seemed strange was that he had almost seemed like he was deep in thought and she had interrupted him. That hadn't been Clematis' attention, but he didn't seem like he was highly focused when she'd initially spoken to him. "Are you sure? I don't want to be a bother if you were busy."
Though he seemed to be fine with her joining him. Was it really alright? Deciding to just go with it, Clematis set down the crate before reaching back to her wheels resting directly behind her shoulders. Drawing her hands to her hubcaps, the femme detached both hubcaps to reveal they were actually a pair of hidden chakrams. She played with them in her hands a bit, eyeing a target in the distance ahead of her. Swinging an arm back to prepare herself, Clematis swung and launched her hubcap chakram through the air and directly at the target. It wasn't a bullseye by any means, but she did manage to graze the side of the target just a little before giggling in an embarrassed manner. "Ehehehe~. Practice throw."
Deciding to return her attention back to the mech beside her, she looked up to him with a smile. "My name's Clematis by the way. I dropped by to deliver some medicine and supplies that I prepared, but I couldn't help but watch when I saw you in here practicing. Sorry if I distracted you. What's your name?"

Skyfire watched the (evidently younger) bot as she threw her hand weapon at the target. He much preferred the simplicity of his laser carbine, but respected the skill she had already with her onboard weapons. He wasn't a warrior, but accuracy and visual acuity were important.
"I assure you, it's no bother. If it was, I'd have said so."
He smiled at her slightly, hoping she'd realize that while he was trying to say it in an amusing way, he was being honest. He knew quite well how to tell someone to leave him alone with his processes. Right now, though, it would be helpful for him not to be so alone, or with Starscream, who was also focusing on the same problems. Being with Dylan might be helpful, but the boy was in school; and he wanted to keep his human friend away from the terrifying possibilities of the past connection between Earth and Cybertron.
He watched the throw, and extended his hand when she introduced herself. "Pleasure to meet you, Clematis. I'm Skyfire."
He had a guess that she would probably know of him, if a human boy who'd been alive less than two decades knew. He didn't try to prevent any of her preconceived notions, or any questions. Instead, he looked at the target, and then back at her hands and her weapons. "I wish to offer a suggestion, Clematis. Focus on the the target, and use your onboard computer when you throw for your aim. Don't try to do it by active cogitation; you're introducing variables that don't impact the situation and disregarding ones that do matter. When you release the disc, what you must do is create enough angular velocity to it through your wrist joint that it maintains level flight due to momentum and air currents - creating lift underneath, both in a forward direction and in a traveling vortex. Your optic sensors should be able to give you range and azimuth to target. If you allow your computer to do the necessary release calculations and log your limb motor accelerometers at necessary output levels, you'll be able to release with correct timing maintain level flight to target every time. Of course, leading a dynamic target takes more work."
Even if she'd only interacted with his core consciousness and hadn't seen his wings, or the nosecone that made up his chestplate, she'd have known immediately that the Lost Seeker was a very rare Autobot flyer. He smiled. "Here, I'll demonstrate."
He glanced around, and picked up a spent shell casing one of the other Autobots hadn't cleaned up, holding it between his thumb and forefinger. Pressing the target call button, he let his optics focus on the Voyager-Class target model (a size class in between Clematis and himself, conveniently the size class most other Seekers fell into), made the back-of-the-datatape calculations he needed, and let the projectile fly from his hand - she'd notice, because he wasn't using a disk, that he used a vertical motion in his wrist, which sent the casing spinning through the air, punching a small hole through the center mass of the target.
"See, no challenge at all, once you trust your computer."

Oh thank goodness Clematis hadn't been bothering the mech at all! She was worried about it, and hearing that she hadn't made her feel much better. She listened to him as he continued to speak, introducing himself as Skyfire. The femme's optics widened in realization, knowing exactly who Skyfire was. He had been the mech that had come to Earth long, long ago and crash landed only to be entombed in ice for so very long! It was a sad tale, and Clematis truly felt for him. Still either way, it was exciting to get to meet such a famous Autobot, even if it was for something that had been a freak accident.
As he demonstrated how she could improve her aim with her chakrams, the femme listened closely to every word he said. It was certainly easy to just let the weapon fly rather than compute the proper trajectory; faster too. As great as shortcuts were, there were always drawbacks to them, and Skyfire had more than proven that with his impromptu lecture. It truly was all in the wrist, but there was more that she needed to consider. Air currents and the velocity. For someone like him all of this could probably be done in an instant, but Clematis would definitely need some practice before using such a skill in combat if she was absolutely needed to. She was excited to see the tall mech demonstrate his technique, and she watched eagerly as the target was brought down. Azure and crimson optics studied everything about Skyfire as he prepared his calculations. His stance, the way he held the shell casing and the way he followed through on his throw before nailing the bullseye like it was the easiest thing in the world.
"Wow! That was incredible. Thank you, Skyfire. I'll give it a try now using your method." Switching the remaining chakram to her right hand, she copied the stance that Skyfire had used in his demonstration. The femme stared down the target before her, muttering to herself thoughtfully. "Create enough angular velocity.. consider the range and azimuth.." Allowing her internal computer to make the calculations for her, Clematis hurled the chakram when she was ready. She watched as it flew through the air, and while it didn't directly hit the bullseye it most certainly had hit just a little off to the left. The femme jumped with excitement, whooping as she laughed before smiling brightly. "I definitely need to practice that more, but you were right!"
Approaching the targets, Clematis collected her hubcap chakrams and reconnected them to her wheels. "I'm glad I got to meet you. I've heard all about you." Thinking back on it, she looked to the tall mech sympathetically. "I'm sorry for what happened to you. If it's okay to ask.. how did you survive something so terrifying?"

Skyfire patiently watched the younger fembot with a smile on his face as she enthusiastically followed his lesson. She was a quick study, but most Autobots were - himself included. Still, he wondered idly - what would she do if she had to hit a target more than twice? He was sure she'd be resourceful enough to figure it out; and her joy at getting a solid hit was palpable enough that his smile spread.
"I'm glad to have helped you. That was a very solid hit, and I'm sure with time, you'll master it."
Now, came the questions - and he could tell the change in tone; he disliked the pity, but understood it. "I went into stasis lock and transformed to robot mode before I actually hit the ice. Or, stasis torpor, to be more exact. My repair system was able to clear the life-threatening damage enough to sustain me in that form. And because of the deep freeze, I was in a minimal-power state."
The story that he had been forced into stasis lock over a polar atmospheric storm would probably raise eyebrows if other Autobots gave it serious thought beyond the unneeded but regular pity. After all, going into stasis lock was usually reserved either for massive damage, or... energon poisoning.

Skyfire sure knew a lot about combat from a tactical standpoint, or at the very least that's what Clematis got from their brief interaction. He was wise and brilliant, and all he'd really even showed her was how to aim and how to better use her wrist when throwing her weapons. Either way, it was much appreciated and she'd always make an effort to remember Skyfire's more than helpful advice.
"I'm glad, too~. I'm not exactly a fighter as you can tell. I prefer to stay as far away from the fighting as I can because I truthfully hate fighting." It seemed like such a strange thing for an Autobot to hate, but it wasn't unheard of at all. Not everyone could be on the battlefield, and when it came to medics sometimes they were best kept as far away from the battlefield as they could be unless they had some fighting prowess. The azure and lilac femme had definitely fallen into the former, but she was prepared to jump into the fray if she was dragged in kicking and screaming. It was better than being a complete moving target that didn't know what to do in order to defend themselves. If she wanted to live, fighting was unfortunately going to have to happen at some point.
The femme listened as Skyfire described what had happened to him, and she had to admit she was surprised that was enough to send him into stasis lock. The fact he'd survived was nothing less than a miracle, but she didn't want to pry too deeply into the fine details as much as it made Clematis curious. As much as she felt sorry for the tall mech for what had happened to him, his story fascinated her on a medical level. "That's.. wow that's a lot. I'm surprised that's all it took to bring you to stasis lock, though. If you'd hit the ice first then maybe, but before ever touching the ground? It makes me wonder what really caused it." Bringing her hand to her chin, she hummed thoughtfully. Could there have been something internally wrong that Skyfire wasn't aware of, or had something hit him so hard that it brought him to stasis lock. But he would have known that, wouldn't he?
Oh right! "Sorry. I forgot to mention that I'm a study medical sciences. My specialty is producing medicine, and I'm always looking for ways to improve. I recently started studying human herbal medicine to see how that can be applied to our own, or even apply ours to theirs. I.. don't exactly work with G.H.O.S.T. and I usually try to stay away from here when I can, but I've got a contract to deliver medicine here regularly that I help create. Hearing about your story got me curious."

Skyfire nodded knowingly when Clematis said that she hated fighting. He knew the feeling well. It was no small part of why he became an Autobot. That, and his sense of honor. "I hate combat as well. I'm a scientist by function. Long-range explorer, actually. But knowing how to defend yourself is necessary. You never know when a natural disaster will strike. And, if you can't defend yourself, you're at a severe disadvantage when it comes to defending others."
Skyfire was now very interested in this young fembot - she'd instantly caught the inconsistency that had escaped both Megatron and Optimus. But if he told anyone the real reason, they'd think him a madman. Or, worse, if they believed him, they might restart the Great War in a bid to find the energon at the north pole - if it was still there. He nodded at her comment. "Earth's atmosphere was much colder at that point than it is now, and much more humid. As it stands, I could make a dozen polar flighhts a day and never worry. I inserted into atmosphere from space with minimal friction, so my frame was still quite cold. When I switched from interstellaar jets to air-breathing to conserve energy while building back to escape velocity, I iced up almost immediately. My control surfaces locked up, and I was in a dead stall. From there, down I went, into the ice. I was revived and repaired by Soundwave, and then a second time by Wheeljack."
That much was almost all true. The freezing up had been the final straw after the transwarp pulse and the energon radiation surge. He just neglected to mention a few facts - that Starscream had been with him in the solar system, and the reason he'd been thrown into atmosphere in the first place.
He considered what she was suggesting, that biotic life - specifically, earth's herbs - could be used to somehow heal damage a transformer took. It was an interesting prospect, even if he did consider it flatly impossible. "Well, I am glad to have met you on one of your visits here. I do work with GHOST, but I don't come here very often either. Metroplex has lent me laboratory space within Autobot City - and my contributions tend to be ferrying GHOST crew across the planet by air. That and my main function, long-range exploration. I believe your methods could work on the Terrans, or other technorganics, but I'm not certain how they would help those of us who were poured and casted. But I'm no great medic, beyond simple repairs, or outside of logic board work. I leave the rest up to Ratchet and Wheeljack."
He smiled. "I am glad to be found interesting by a younger generation of our race. There are many of us who are quite boring."

So Skyfire hated fighting too! Clematis could relate, and hearing that he was a scientist and explorer got her even more excited about this tall mech. While she didn't explore whole lot, she still liked to roam around looking for new flowers and to learn more about medical remedies that humans used. That had been her research focus at the moment, though she still did her work producing medicine for her kind. While there were others out there, it was still her duty and she was still obligated to bring her goods to those working at G.H.O.S.T. HQ.
It was definitely a good thing that Skyfire didn't have as much trouble nowadays when it came to Earth's atmosphere, but it still concerned her a bit. Sure the atmosphere had been much colder and humid when he initially went into stasis lock and was buried in the ice for so very long, but that wouldn't have been the sole cause of his ailments right? The only thing that concerned her more was that it had happened not just once, but twice! Clematis' optics widened as the mech recalled both times he was revived after being buried in ice. "Wait.. it happened a second time? I'm glad you said that you haven't had any more issues, but that's concerning that it even happened once." Part of her wanted to suggest he see someone about that issue, but that wasn't her job to offer him medical advice. The femme was sure that if Skyfire was truly concerned about it he would've already done just that. If there was more to the story, she wasn't going to pry.
Clematis did perk up as the tall mech mentioned he worked in a laboratory in Autobot City as well. They worked relatively close to each other then, and that was always a good thing. It meant that provided the both of them weren't busy, maybe she could go see him sometime. Though she didn't blame him for doubting how her work with Earth herbs would be of much benefit to Cybertronian life. "I figured if anything it was worth seeing if it was a possibility. I thought maybe there was a chance something here could help cure diseases of ours like the Rust Plague, but if nothing else at least flowers are nice to look at and look nice on a shelf. Though maybe you're right and it's worth investing time to see if it would aid with the Terran's health. I've been wanting to learn more about them and how similar they are to us, and in what ways they differ. The whole thought of Cybertronians being born on Earth.. It's so wild and fascinating at the same time! I'd really love to meet one, because I have so many questions."
Mentioning that Skyfire felt that younger generations thought older mechs like him were boring, the femme had trouble holding back a small giggle. "I don't think you're boring at all! You talk a lot, but you're very detailed and thoughtful. I feel like I could learn a lot from you, and I wouldn't mind working with you if the right project were to come up. I think it could be fun~."

Skyfire shook his head at the young bot's enthusiastic concern, waving a hand. "No, my second revival was due to taking one of Starscream's null rays in the bearings unexpectedly, and then being shot by Megatron's ion cannon in the back of my sensory cluster. Neither is an experience I recommend, I assure you. And then, to add insult to grave injury, there was the landslide caused by everyone shooting and no one being worried about accuracy. Being already badly injured, I was unable to get out. A few weeks later, Wheeljack came back, pulled me out of stasis lock, and repaired me."
It was a pretty harrowing tale, of course, but really not uncommon during the Great War. The fact that he'd gotten not only a second chance, but a third, made his life special.
He nodded when she commented on the Terrans. He had to agree, it was interesting to him; the birth of new sparks, no matter their shells, was a bright moment in history. "There are legends that speak of technorganic lifeforms on Cybertron, much like the Terrans. They were around long before the Great War - long before the Golden Age, even. I always thought they were just stories, but... perhaps that thought requires re-evaluation."
Her offer of working with him sounded interesting. And her brightness and enthusiasm made him think she'd be a good friend for Dylan as well, possibly. "Absolutely. If I can aid your research in any way, I will do so."

So that hadn't been the cause of Skyfire's second stasis lock. Clematis winced as he described how it had happened, knowing that couldn't have been have been easy in the least. To awaken only to be thrown into a war and sent right back into stasis lock painfully. The poor guy.. No one deserved that, and she was glad that Wheeljack had managed to save him the second time. He'd already seemed like a nice mech when Clematis had met him previously, but she respected him just that much more for coming to Skyfire's aid like that.
But yes the Terrans had truly been something special. There was so much they didn't know about the newest part of the Cybertronian race, and there were no easy way of getting answers without questionable actions. Of course, even the Terrans didn't know much about themselves which only made things harder. They'd need to find what their origin was and why they were created. How they were created. Though Skyfire's theory did make sense. Maybe it connected to the Terrans and maybe it didn't, but it seemed reasonable enough to think it was likely. "So you think there's a correlation between the Terrans and these legends? I say it's worth looking into see if it they're connected. I'm sure we'd all love to have answers, and while it's a bit unorthodox maybe that's the best starting point too. Never know if you don't try." Just like the femme's experiments with Earth herbs to see if it'd have any benefit to Cybertronian medicine. If you never tried, you'd never know if it would work out or not.
It made the azure and lilac femme happy that the tall mech was open to the idea of working with her for research at some point. "Thanks! Two processors are better than one after all, and I'd be more than happy to help with your research in any way that I can even if you just need a second set of hands. Like I said, it could be a learning experience." A learning experience and potentially a means of making a new friend. It was always nice to have someone to talk to, even about things outside of work.
Humming to herself quietly and thoughtfully, Clematis thought of another question she wanted to ask. "If you don't mind me asking.. what's your thoughts about G.H.O.S.T. and the Decepticons? I know why many want them locked up, but I can't help but feel that there's something more than can be done than locking them up and throwing out the key. I was just curious how you felt about it." Clematis had her reasons for feeling the way she did, but she wanted to get Skyfire's opinion on the situation before delving into it.

Skyfire's expression when the fembot suggested looking into the correlations between these Terrans and the legends of their people would probably be hard to read for a moment - then it settled down into a general sense of disappointment. Obviously it wasn't with her, but rather with the situation at large.
"That's a good idea - but for me to do that, I would have to get to the annals of history - which are, of course, in the heart of Iacon." That would probably make Clematis aware of the situation they faced. But he waited for the moment of realization before really driving home the dropping of the other shoe. "Until we find a way back there, we're stuck with only what we know here."
It would probably be a sobering realization for the younger bot. By losing contact to Cybertron, not only did they lose the cause for the Great War, but also with their heritage, their history, and their resources. And it wouldn't be safe for them to try and regain that connection, because Skyfire knew he wasn't the only one certain that the war still raged on their homeworld, and, that they would all be drawn in if they went back. The still-tenuous peace would be broken in an instant.
Still, her offer of help with research was greatly appreciated. "Thank you. Your help will likely prove to be most useful."
Then, she asked him about G.H.O.S.T. - specifically, the way they were dealing with the imprisoned Decepticons. He thought for a moment, and shrugged. "It was not by my choice that they have been outfitted with restraining bolts. But on consideration, any other option would have been more barbaric. The only choices available are surgical removal of their power-chip rectifiers, forced stasis-lock, or alteration of their logic mechanisms - as the Autobot Elders used to do. Or, perhaps permanent deactivation and dismantling, their sparks extinguished and their bodies melted for slag, that's what Decepticons do to prisoners - and I know, I was one, briefly. My resignation from their ranks was a direct result of their treatment of prisoners. Those who are now imprisoned long-term are there only because they choose to be. All that they would have to do is accept the peace, and they would be free mechanisms. No one is forcing them to maintain allegiance to a dead cause. They would be accepted as Autobots, if they were not stubborn."
He looked down at Clematis. "Make no mistake. Had the end of the War been on the opposite terms - had Optimus been forced into surrender instead of Megatron, we would all be slagged. There would be no moral questioning, no restraining bolts, no prison. He wouldn't tell you that now, of course. But, I have seen his intended treatment of prisoners - human and Autobot - first-hand."

That's right.. So much had been lost thanks to them not being able to return to Cybertron hadn't it. So much culture and history. Sometimes Clematis forgot just how bad it was until times like this when something oddly specific was needed. Until there was a way to return home, if ever, all of that was lost to them with no hope of reclaiming it. The choice to destroy the ground bridge had been a difficult one and Clematis could understand why it needed to be done to an extent, but so much was lost in the process. How they were all stuck on this planet together, and even to this day the fighting hadn't entirely stopped. The femme herself really did like this planet so it wasn't a complete loss, but there were times where she and many, many other felt that homesickness. This wasn't their world after all, even if they now had to live on it.
Fragged if you did, fragged if you didn't. Winning was never an option.
She was more than happy to help Skyfire with his research, but as she listened to the mech's words about how ancient Autobots treated prisoners shook her to the core. Clematis never knew just how bad things were regarding prisoners, and her optics widened at the thought of any of that happening in this day and age, especially to Nightshroud. "When you put it that way.. imprisonment certainly is the better option. That's just.. cruel." No one should have to experience such brutal punishments like that. To have who you are stripped away from you as punishment; to simply be terminated because you thought differently. It was disheartening that the Decepticons were just as cruel with their methods as well, but it didn't surprise her either given what she had heard about Megatron back during his time as the Decepticon leader. It was their form of justice she supposed, but that didn't make it right either. "I just wish there was a better way of convincing them that they could make a change and better their lives. I've been trying for so long, only to fall on deaf audials."
Glancing down, Clematis sighed as she frowned. "My spark twin, Nightshroud, is with the Decepticons. I don't think she really follows their beliefs entirely, but she felt horribly wronged by the Autobots for something that wasn't even their fault.. or even mine. It was.. an extremely unfortunate situation, and no one was to blame. I didn't choose for the Autobots to rescue me only to not be able to find her when we were both trapped under the wreckage of the science lab we used to work at, and as much as I try to explain that to her she won't listen. She just thinks that I betrayed her for siding with those that kept me online." Even as she told herself that it wasn't anyone's fault, Clematis herself didn't believe her own words. Yes it wasn't the Autobots' fault, but the femme still felt that she could have done more. There could have been something she could have done to prevent her twin's suffering. Despite those thoughts, she couldn't change what had happened nor could she find a solution that would have made things better. She knew she shouldn't dwell on it, but she couldn't help but feel such deep guilt over it either.
