It was finally that time of year again. Halloween wasn't necessarily Bumblebee's most favorite holiday outside of the excuse of seeing what costumes people wore and checking out the decorations, but it was a little special this year. This would be the first Halloween that the Terrans got to celebrate with the Malto family, and it was his first one with Nick as well. The Terrans were all about getting to celebrate just about anything with their human family and learning their traditions, and Bee wanted to be a part of that too. And so he had come up with the clever plan of sneaking into Autobot City and doing a little trick-or-treating.
Though it wasn't just the celebrating that made Bumblebee want to do this. He wanted to venture out and be a part of society again, but needing to stay undercover made that a little difficult to do. This time he had a bold plan as he stood outside the barn at the Malto residence waiting for everyone to meet up with him. With a nice fresh coat of electronic paint, Bumblebee switched his normally yellow armor to a different color.
Today.. he would be Cliffjumper.
It'd be awkward if he actually ran into the guy, but hey they got mistaken for each other all the time and G.H.O.S.T. was looking for Bumblebee. They wouldn't bat an eye if they saw a red Bumblebee, right? Cliff was have a cow! Still, he found the idea hilarious and he was going to take advantage of this one night to have a little fun finally getting to explore Autobot City with the kids. He might be the babysitter, but they'd get to be his quote unquote tour guides. "Alright, Maltobots! Who's ready for a little field trip?" Hopefully they were finally ready.

Nightshade looked up from their book and had to reset their optics several times. Ok, so there wasn't a malfunction with their optical sensors.
"Bumblebee... why are you red?"
Nightshade set the book down and moved to stand near their teacher, still blinking rapidly. The owlformer Maltobot was curious to see what Bumblebee meant by field trip. It was rare they did these kinds of things. Nightshade was actually looking forward to seeing what their mentor had planned.
They looked around at their brothers and sisters, wondering what was going through their heads.

An excited squeal quickly filled the barn as she heard Bumblebee's words, zipping out in her alternate mode from the hidden bunker beneath. Her form was changed to match the festive holiday that was Halloween making her frame a solid black with bits of white, transforming as soon as she flew outside, her form altered to resemble a skeleton, her painted skull decorative like that of a sugar skull. The wonders of electronic paint were not lost to the ever hyperactive Twitch.
"Heck yea I'm ready! I've been waiting all day for this!" Twitch said with wide eyed excited optics as she hovered in place. Naturally, she was always eager to be involved with something new when it came to Earth culture, and the chance to be able to travel outside Witwicky was even better. Not counting that time she snuck out without her parents, siblings, or Bee knowing. She'd keep that to herself.
But when she heard Nightshade's words, Twitch was a bit surprised. Had they not heard about the trip they were fixing to make for Halloween? Giving how Nightshade could get deep into a project, she could imagine the owlformer had not heard about it. "We're going to go trick-or-treating for the first time Nightshade! Our first Halloween holiday as a family!" If it were possible, Twitch would probably burst with excitement as she landed to meet her sibling, her optics shining brightly and her excitement flashing across their shared bonds. "We get to dress up, get goodies, get out of the house for a while! It'll be fun!"

Mo sprinted out the door of the Malto family house toward the barn as quickly as she could. In her haste, the sound of cardboard awkwardly rubbing against itself accompanied her excited squeal. The young girl had spent a majority of September working on her costume with her father; a miniature cardboard version of everyone's favourite Autobot/Terran mentor, Bumblebee! She could even transform! Hours and hours of hard work and burrito snack breaks would finally be shown off on this spooky scary night, and Mo could hardly wait.
"Happy first Halloweeeen!" She cried, and in her excitement nearly tripping over her clunky boots as she came to a stop in front of the bots. Immediately her gaze jumped to Bumblebee- Or perhaps she should say Cliffjumper? "Oh my gosh! We match, Bee!"

Nick had to admit he was more excited than most years.
Of course as the resident horror fan he loved Halloween. But usually he was doing the holiday with his friends since his uncle was of course decidedly a hands-off guardian as opposed to Bumblebee. He’d wanted to go into Autobot city with the whole family and that had him excited. Honestly it had him wondering what kind of stuff they gave out.
He put the finishing touches on his own costume - like Mo, he’d done his own homebrew Bee out of spare parts from his old auto shop. It was a little heavy but oh well.
As he stepped out into the room, just in time for Nightshade to ask, he initially let Twitch answer before adding in. “Halloween is like the coolest holiday ever. I bet it’s going to be awesome in the city!” He grinned ear-to-ear, though quickly noticed Mo. “Hey! How did that happen? Yours looks rad!”
He couldn’t help but chuckle at Bumblebee’s costume though. Crossing his arms with a cheeky grin. “Oh man, everyone’s gonna love this! You can’t even tell the difference,” he did a circle around his form with a thumbs up. “So what’s our plan of attack? I definitely want to go for all the jumbo bars first.”

Halloween!!
Hashtag was so excited for this and had been making preparations for the last couple weeks or so. She had a very difficult time trying to decide what it was she wanted to do for her costume, but she'd made the surprising decision to not try out electronic paint for herself. Sure it'd be fun, but what was even better was the costume she had settled on. She didn't want to put it on straight away because she knew she'd need to transform into vehicle mode to travel to Autobot City, so she tucked away the mounds of white fabric and the extensive wig into her storage for now. She did, however, place little metallic bolts onto the sides of her neck. The costume she picked was so perfect she didn't even need the paint for it!
It was like it was meant to be.
Just as Twitch rushed into the barn, Hashtag was not too far behind her spotting Bumblebee and Nightshade talking while Nick and Mo rushed in with matching costumes. The Terran couldn't help but chuckle as she saw their mentor now sporting a coat of red paint. "What's the matter, Bee? Something get you all flustered?" Hashtag couldn't help but joke as her optics turned toward the two humans. "And you two.. you're practically twins!"
Though it did seem Nightshade either forgot about the trip or didn't realize it was happening. Oh no did that mean they didn't have a costume? She listened as Twitch explained the whole process of what one did on Halloween. "We can still get a costume for you, Nightshade, but you don't have to dress up if you don't wanna. I'm not putting mine on until we get to Autobot City anyway cause I don't wanna mess it up on the way there. Tire tracks are a little hard to get out of fabric." And that's if there was even any fabric left at that point with the friction alone.

One by one the Terrans all began to file on in, but it also surprised Bumblebee that Nightshade was caught off guard. He looked to the three Terrans, smiling as the two femmes explained Halloween to their sibling and that they could still help with a costume if Nightshade needed or even wanted one. At least they were being a little more inclusive this time rather than wanting to play Transformer Tag when Nightshade and Jawbreaker didn't have alt-modes; back when Nightshade didn't even want an alt-mode. Bee pulled out a small device, and at the press of a button the red armor returned to his normal yellow and then back to red when he pushed the button again.
"Electronic paint~. Another one of Wheeljack's inventions. Figured I should at least get in the spirit of Halloween, but it's my disguise so I can sneak into Autobot City with little chance of G.H.O.S.T. recognizing me. I'm sure Cliffjumper wouldn't mind me pretending to be him for a night."
Yeah. He'd definitely mind, and that would be the funny part. Cliffjumper already got mad enough when he was mistaken for Bumblebee, and this was taking it to a whole new level. Still, it was a quick and easy disguise.
Before too much longer both Mo and Nick rolled in, and the Autobot scout immediately noticed something similar with both of their costumes. The two humans were both dressed.. as him. It was flattering to say the least, but he did feel a little weird about it especially after taking the effort to apply the electronic paint to disguise himself as his good buddy Cliffjumper. Mo's looked pretty delicate and easy to wear, but Nick's definitely looked a bit more.. heavy. "Looking good, both of you. Are you, uh.. gonna be okay wearing something heavy like that, Nick? We're gonna be doing a lot of walking, and I mean a lot." Sometimes people liked to make costumes only to realize that they weren't exactly the most functional and ended up not being able to wear them long term because they were too hot or too heavy; too uncomfortable in general. Needed to keep the comfort in mind.
"Alright, so the game plan you guys is we're gonna drive-." Bee looked to Twitch and Nightshade before continuing. "Or fly.. to Autobot City and go around doing some trick-or-treating. I hear some of the shops have some trick-or-treating areas set up both for humans and for Cybertronians, so this is gonna be a learning experience for you Terrans. Clematis told me ahead of time that while she wanted to see you guys she's.. got other plans for the night, but she did leave a care package for us at the pharmacy she works at so we'll have to pick that up along the way. So.. you guys ready to roll out?"

Nightshade tilted their heads. Costumes? Trick-or-treating? These were new concepts to them and their optics widened in innocent curiosity.
"Would I even be able to have a costume on such short notice?"
Nightshade was suddenly unsure and nervous. They hadn't even really known about human holidays until basically the holiday was there. They had always been so busy with their projects that it had never occurred to them. Nightshade felt underdressed and anxious now. They wrung their hands, optics suddenly full of insecurities. What if they picked the wrong costume or no one liked it? Nightshade was afraid to be made fun of. Normally this wasn't an issue but Mo and the human called Nick seemed so excited and looked amazing in their costumes. And the fact that the others were so confident in this made Nightshade feel like they would just put a damper on everything.
Their optics lowered, trying to hide the shame and fear that had come into their optics. Nightshade didn't want to let them down but the fact that they were so clueless made Nightshade feel stupid and insecure. And Nightshade loathed the feeling of being insecure about not knowing something. Wringing their hands, they swallowed thickly, shaking nervously. They didn't want to let anyone down!

Twitch couldn't help feeling more and more giddy as Mo and Nick soon joined them, looking over their costumes and smiling slightly at the irony. While the two young humans were masquerading as Bee, Bumblebee himself was walking around with a quick bit of paint to look like another Autobot often mistaken for him. "Its a Bee-ception." Twitch joked as she looked the three over before looking towards Hashtag curious as to what her younger sister was going as.
But as Bumblebee explained what they would be doing, the drone femme couldn't help noticing how nervous and down Nightshade became. A part of Twitch felt ashamed then, having thought all her siblings knew about the trip in question. Maybe it wasn't too late to change that though!
"Nightshade, don't be so glum! We still have a bit before nightfall hits, so we should be able to find you something!" Twitch tried to encourage, quickly glancing at Bee, "If you don't mind waiting just a bit longer Bumblebee." Though she figured their mentor could be understanding in that regard, quickly looking back at her sibling. There had to be some idea for them. Twitch didn't want to see Nightshade kept out of the fun or feel insecure as they had before finding their current alternate mode. So, the smaller Terran was thinking. What could they do on short notice? 'Think Twitch, think...' But an idea soon dawned on her, "What about being a ninja Nightshade! You can already make your own face mask, plus you're stealthy, quick on your feet, and wise! We can make some quick accessories for you and maybe a couple other details!" Twitch suggested excitedly.
The way Nightshade usually handled themselves, Twitch had occasionally found herself thinking it was much like a ninja. Plus, the way they considered themselves a guardian of sorts would fit closely with that profile as well.

Mo nodded vigorously at Twitch’s suggestion. Nightshade was totally ninja-esque! Even their name sounded like something out of an old ninja movie. Nightshade the Ninja… Maybe Hashtag could make her own ninja movie with them, if the owl terran didn’t mind. Mo made a quick mental note to tell the two about that idea after this was all over.
“It’s no worries, Nightshade!” Mo speed-walked over to her sibling as well as she could and hugged their leg in an attempt to calm their nerves. “We can whip up a costume for you in no time. I think we’ve still got some cardboard left from making mine- It’s not enough for a full outfit, but we could make a katana for you! Maybe even two!”

Nick beamed when Bee said he was looking good.
But also felt his cheeks go a little red when he asked if he would be good. He hadn’t thought about the weight come to think of it. But he was pretty sure he’d be OK, right? Looking himself over as he did. “I… Think I’ll be OK, dad. Honestly, it’s not too bad,” He finally replied. Putting his hands on his hips. “Besides, what’s the worst that happens?”
Wait, they were going to Autobot city!? That was awesome! He wondered if that meant they’d run into anyone he knew. The chance to actually show off his dad was a little awesome to him. “Sweet! My friends were telling me all the best places to trick or treat earlier this week,” He explained. “We are going to be loaded with the goods.”
Oh! Right! A costume for Nightshade. He rubbed the back of his neck, trying to think of what they could be. The idea of a ninja wasn’t bad at all, he thought as he stroked his chin. “Yeah! Carboard kitana’s are a great idea!” Nick encouraged. “Hey, I think I got a bunch of fabric from my cosplays too! Should be something big enough to make an eye mask! Like a ninja turtle!”

Poor Nightshade.. Hashtag felt so awful. She thought her sibling knew about the holiday, but they didn't. She could feel Nightshade's shame and insecurity, and it only made Hashtag feel worse knowing the rest of her Terran siblings would likely feel the same way. Hashtag had plenty of ideas of how to quickly rectify this situation in a jiffy, using the power of Wi-Fi to quickly find last second costume ideas that her sibling could pull off. There were so many options.
But Twitch, Mo and Nick had already come up with this wicked idea of Nightshade being a ninja.
As they all talked, the purple Terran looked to Nightshade with worry. This was like Transformer Tag all over again, back when Nightshade didn't even want an alt-mode. Here her siblings were settling on a decision for Nightshade but they hadn't decided for themselves yet. Hashtag approached Nightshade, smiling a little. "You don't have to be a ninja if you don't wanna be. There's a bunch of other costumes you could pick if you wanted to that we could throw together in a snap. Like a vampire! Or.. or maybe the main character from your favorite book series." What was it again.. the sentry owl? "But if you don't wanna dress up, it's okay. I'll leave my costume here at home so you won't be the only one not dressed up."
It was her effort to try and be more considerate of others. Why pressure Nightshade into being a ninja unless they wanted to be one?

What was the worst that could happen..?
"Oh sweet Solus Prime." Bumblebee sighed, pressing his servo against his forehelm. He almost didn't even want to hear Nick complain if his costume got too heavy, but what was he supposed to do at that point anyway? Letting him tough it out wasn't exactly the option either, but maybe letting him figure out the hard way that heavy costumes weren't exactly made for long wear. "Well I am gonna tell you this, Nick. I don't want you wearing that if you're riding with me. I don't want my seats all messed up so when we get ready to go why don't you put that in the trunk and then you can put it back on when we get there."
Though it did seem they'd be waiting a little bit longer. Nightshade felt bad that they didn't have a costume let alone realize what today was, though Bee was proud of the Terrans, Mo and Nick helping to come up with a solution so Nightshade could enjoy the festivities too. Heck he was even proud of Hashtag for pointing out that the others had all jumped on board the whole ninja thing when Nightshade hadn't even said if that's what they wanted to do or not. They really were growing up fast and maturing right in front of his optics. Sure they had their moments, but it was nice when the Maltos all came together like this.
"I guess we can wait a little bit longer. So, Nightshade. What do you wanna do?"

Nightshade heard all the ideas pouring in and knelt to hug their sister, tightly. Mo was so sweet! And Hashtag of course was offering other ideas.
"It's alright, Hashtag. I like what Mo is suggesting. I've heard of ninjas and samurais from dad. And I think I know what the ninja turtle thing they're talking about is. And... well... I'm green?"
Nightshade let out a giggle and hugged their other sisters too. Nightshade was suddenly excited, optics bright. They were including them in the fun and offering ideas! Nightshade was looking forward to spending time with their family. In fact, they were practically wiggling back and forth! Nightshade looked at Mo and Nick.
"Will you two help me? You too, Hashtag?"
Nightshade smiled warmly.
