Wheeljack would argue that not trusting Starscream was always the answer.
Then again, this was the guy who also didn't trust Megatron either. For Wheeljack, some of these Decepticons had done far too much to ever be forgiven. Was it a little mean? Probably, but at the same time he had a lot of bad experiences with that. Between all the things he'd done to his friends, and all the things he'd known him to do by reputation alone. "I get what you're saying - or at least what's going through your head, but people like Starscream don't change," Wheeljack explained - quite honestly. "Chances are he's dangerous even now... Even to your sister. I hate to think she'd learn that sooner rather than later."
With a grunt, he then decided to add. "Don't worry about it, kid. I don't mind talking... I know what it's like to need to rant," He explained. "I probably should be doing some of that too. But I'd rather drown it in high grade."

Wheeljack said he understood, but Clematis just wasn't so sure. Yes she knew Starscream had done horrible things, but so had Megatron yet many were so quick to forgive him when he switched sides. Did that not mean Starscream couldn't? What if he really was making an effort to change? Skyfire didn't seem to think so either, and now Wheeljack was thinking the same way. Part of her worried that Wheeljack wouldn't take that datastick seriously, but Clematis would just have to hope that he would. She herself hadn't even reviewed the data on it, but she trusted what Starscream had to say. If GHOST really was mistreating all the locked up Decepticons, that wasn't okay.
But the azure and lilac femme felt that she wouldn't get any further by saying how she felt about things to Wheeljack. He'd already made up his mind and he was sticking to it, just like Skyfire.
Clematis paused as Wheeljack mentioned he needed to vent too, just taking a quick moment for herself to decompress after what all he had said. Now there was a part of her that was worried for Nightshroud, but she would have felt something if Starscream had hurt her in some way.. right? The young Autobot decided to take a moment to try and contact Nightshroud through their split spark bond, though she knew what the answer would likely be.
<<"Nightshroud.. I need to talk to you. I know you probably don't want to hear from me, but can we talk later? I'm worried about you..">>
And just as she expected.. silence.
Right.. Wheeljack had said something about needing to do some ranting too. "You shouldn't drown your sorrows away. I'll listen if you need to get it off your chest. It's the least I can do for troubling you with my problems."

Wheeljack tilted his head to the side.
On one hand, he couldn't really say anything super specific. If he did, he'd be bereaking a dozen agreements, and also really terribly taking some trust from his "kids". What's more, the one bothering him most had the most well-known case among the Autobot faction when it came to war orphans, as far as he was concerned. Dylan had been through hell, and back... The last thing he wanted to do was have any word get back to the ten year old that he was out name dropping him in this situation.
Finally, he cleared his "throat" and spoke. "It's just a tough time of year. Especially for the harder to place kids. We got this one kid who's been in the program five years and just got returned again. Fragging makes me feel like a failure," He admitted. "I gotta be discreet about what I say about it though. The kid's been through hell..."
He took a swirl of his high grade and then a sip. "You have great days, and then you have today. That's the hard part of working in the program..."

As Clematis listened to Wheeljack's problems she couldn't help but think it felt just a little familiar. She didn't know this child that he spoke of, but the situation itself. It was very similar to how things were between her and her twin, only she knew what Nightshroud's problem was. Then again, it didn't escape Clematis' notice that Cybertron hadn't been so kind to her twin. She didn't feel comfortable in her own body and had to seek illegal means to have her body reformatted, and even then she was afraid to show off her new body to just anyone. Cybertron suppressed her, but on Earth she thrived. The crimson seeker not only could be herself when she allowed herself to open up to it, but found someone she cared about. Someone she likely never would have met under normal circumstances.
Maybe it was the same for this child.
"I don't think you've failed. I know better than anyone that you can try absolutely everything, and still fail in the end. Not.. everyone can be saved." The azure and lilac femme smiled sadly, bowing her helm a bit to avert her gaze from the mech. "Maybe they just haven't found the right environment where they can thrive. Maybe.. they need somewhere they can really be themselves. I won't pretend I know everything about humans because I don't, but.. what if it's not necessarily a parental unit they need, but more of an older sibling or something like that? Someone that can understand them on some level and relate to their situation."
There was a small part of Clematis that was interested, but she was just so busy with work that she didn't think she had the time to commit to mentoring a human.

Wheeljack hadn't really thought of that.
In his processor, he'd been determind to save all the kids on Earth and solve all of the problems. Was it a little impossible? Absolutely, but everyone knew that Wheeljack was a stubborn mech. Though her suggestion wasn't a bad one either - maybe menntorship programs were also the answer, he didn't know. A part of him was always arguing with himself about what he could do that was more.
Oh right, he was still sitting there alone with his thoughts. Dammit, Wheeljack, you were talking to someone! Finally getting himself out of his little space in his head he decided to reply. "It's worth a try I guess. Just gotta keep taking it from different angles. It's sort of ironic since he came to us younger but he's been in the program a long time," He observed. "I think he was a bit of a factor we hadn't epxected and sometimes it makes it harder for me to gage what to do."
He gave a light hicupp, indicating he was starting to guzzle down a bit too much high grade. Frag it. "Whoops. Maybe I need to slow it down." He joked.

Clematis wished there was something more that she could do to help Wheeljack's situation, but there wasn't much she could do outside of her suggestions. She just wished that he wasn't beating himself up about it as much as he was, but at the same time she was the one beating herself up for the whole jailbreak thing. Maybe that was her sign that she needed to stop doing that, but it was easier said than done. She was still afraid of reporting to Optimus about the situation; afraid that he was going to think that she was conspiring with the Cons, and that wasn't even factoring in her desire to help try and keep Nightshroud safe. It felt like no matter what she did there was just no winning.
At least Wheeljack was going to try her suggestion to help the kid.
But it was that hiccup that made the azure and lilac femme frown. Whether he was drinking the high grade too quickly or not, it still wasn't good for him to be doing that. It almost was uncomfortable, and while she wanted to slip out she couldn't just leave Wheeljack like this either. She'd feel bad if something happened. "Maybe.. you should ease off the high grade? That can't be healthy for you to do that."

Slow down? Oh right, high grade….
On one hand Wheelajck definitely should listen to her. But on the other he tended to do this when he got down on himself, or just depressed in general. Wheeljack of course was not a heavy drinker, it was more of a testament to how little he actually did it that he was a little tipsy after this one.
“Eh I’m fine, trust me! Not a problem at all,” Wheeljack admitted. “I don’t really drink that much is all. I kind of stopped making it a habit after I became a dad. Ain’t a good look if I’m out drinking all night.”
And in his day, he’d definitely been both a partier and a drinker. He wasn’t ashamed to say that. “I don’t know though,” another hiccup. “I probably should slow my intake down but it’s nice once in a while.”

Clematis frowned as Wheeljack insisted that he was completely fine. "Are you sure..?" He didn't seem fine to her, and his insistence that he didn't drink much followed was only made worse when he mentioned it was nice.. even if he did agree with her a little.
"Do.. you need me to take you home or something?" She didn't want to just outright ditch Wheeljack if he wanted to stay, but she was starting to feel somewhat uncomfortable at the same time. She couldn't force Wheeljack to leave, and deep down she knew that. "I just don't want you here alone is all."

Wheeljack hummed.
Did he need to be escorted home? As someone who didn't drink much, he wasn't sure whether he was drunk, buzzed, or just feeling goofy at this point. He stood to his feet for a bit of a test, and thankfully still stood up straight enough that he could make the assumption he wasn't drunk. Just not used to drinking like this and feeling a little effect from it. "Maybe an escort isn't such a bad idea. I don't think I'm drunk though, thankfully," Wheeljack expalined. "C'mon, it ain't that far anyway! A couple blocks down the street maybe?"

"Mmm.."
Clematis nodded softly before getting up. At least Wheeljack seemed to be standing up just fine on his own, but she didn't know if she trusted the fact that he claimed he hadn't drunk too much or not. Maybe she was just worrying about it too much, but the fact that she's already been feeling down to begin with hadn't exactly helped with how she felt about the whole thing. Before Wheeljack could even get a chance to, Clematis paid for his drinks before starting to make her exit from the bar. While she was trying to speed out of there quickly before someone could recognize her, she did check behind her every few seconds just to make sure the scientist was still behind her and wasn't passed out on the floor or something.
Once she was out of the bar, Clematis leaned against the wall until Wheeljack came out. "Which way?"
