“Good job deducing that one.” Starscream scoffed. He was hoping that with this information Soundwave would connect the dots and stop asking him to tell his plan out loud, in a place that’s 100% monitored by the ennemy. Even telling that story had been risky, but if he wanted to cooperate with Soundwave, he had to give him something.
The Seeker froze at the second question. What? Starscream sighed, rubbing a servos over his face plate. For a mech so intelligent, how could he be so daft? It took a few nano-clicks to consider what his next move should be. The Seeker finally settled on turning his frame around, looking at Soundwave with a neutral face.
“I don’t want to answer that last inquiry. Not only that, but I want to know why my relationship with this Twin is any of your concern?” His tone was cold and clipped, his meaning clear: even if Soundwave pressed, he would not get an answer. Not on this. It was none of his business.
“Thank you for the energon, but I don’t owe you my life story. You can piece my plan together, or do I have to spell it out step by step so the recording in here can pick it up and alert G.H.O.S.T? Can you piece it together or do I still have to hold your servos?” Starscream glared. He would not go down that line of inquiries. Let Soundwave assume what he wants.

So Soundwave was right then about this having to do with whoever Starscream thought might be coming to rescue him. For whatever parts of the story held any sort of truth, it would seem that Starscream had met with one of these twins and they had formed some level of trust if the seeker held such faith in her. Still, it didn't change the fact that this was a bot that was unaccounted for. Someone he didn't know and it bothered him. If they were to be part of the plan, it would be most helpful if Soundwave knew exactly what he was working with. How did he know they wouldn't turn traitor just as Starscream had in the past? There were too many unknown variables, and it bothered him greatly. And apparently it bothered Starscream that Soundwave was bothered by it at all. Sighing, Soundwave once more rubbed his helm. He really wished that the seeker would understand where he was coming from with this. "NOT YOUR LIFE STORY. TWIN'S ABILITIES. STRENGTHS. LIKELYHOOD OF BETRAYAL?" He didn't sound angry as he spoke, but rather concerned. He wanted Starscream to understand that Soundwave was not aware of who this person was, and did not want to bring in the chances of their plans being sabotaged by an unknown source. If it was someone he knew, this would be so much easier. "PLAN: PIECED TOGETHER"

Starscream glare only deepened. It didn’t escape him that Soundwave had not answered his question. It made him want to yell, throw a tantrum and go into reboot mode. He was too exhausted for that. Also it might blow his cover, for what little entertainment it gave him. Time to default back to his defeated mech routine. Starscream shrugged.
“She would never betray the cause.”
With a sigh, he flopped on his side, off-lining his optics. He pulled footage of their training, remembering how they had bantered and laughed their way trough it. Her fierceness and how she was as determined as him. She had promise she would bust him out, and he trusted her. It had been good enough for him, it would have to do for Soundwave. With a chuckle, Starscream shook his helm, hearing it scrape against the floor. What’s a few more scratches?
“Again, wouldn’t want to be you. You can’t fully control everything. Letting go. Ever heard of that? I will repeat myself, again, because I am convinced now that you are deaf. Waiting is the plan. There’s nothing else to do. So why don’t you sit your pretty aft down and I don’t know. Play a song or something. Sure as hell would be more useful.”
Starscream, for his part, would lay there and let his self-repairs take care of him, now that he had some spare fuel. He had only half-joked when he had requested some music. Anything to distract him from his pain and misery, since Soundwave was doing such a bad job at it.

Starscream really wasn't getting it was he? Living in this delusion that Soundwave was against him, but that wasn't it at all. He wanted to be sure that this femme whoever she was wasn't going to just leave the seeker hanging, leaving him with false hope that he would be rescued when a rescue never came. He knew better than anyone what it was like to wait for something, only to be disappointed when it never happened. That's what the Council seemed to be best at, and that's precisely why the former Council member had said what he did. They needed to understand that what they were doing to the people of Cybertron was not okay and that many suffered while they kissed each others afts on tall pedestals. Despite his attempts at making sure Starscream knew what he was getting himself into, even if they were poorly worded, the seeker was completely dead set that this femme would never betray the cause and would never betray him. Soundwave supposed that would have to be good enough for now. Yet the former second-in-command's words irked him. He knew fragging well what it meant to let go, and he knew he could not control everything. If he could, the Council would have listened to his warnings instead of being the arrogant fools that they had been. Look what it had left them all now. Though the idea of playing music wasn't without it's merit. Turning his back to the window, Soundwave sat on the floor and leaned against said window. Searching through his music, he came across a song by an Earthen band. He felt the lyrics fitting of this moment, letting his speakers play the music out loud so that they both could hear. "Give me a sign Sing the words of innocence and broken pride Make my conclusions fail Send me a sign, heal this broken melody 'Cause each night I die in Hell"

Starscream stayed on the floor, optics off-lined and letting his body recover from the punishing pace it’s been put through. He had said enough for the other mech to piece it together, or he’d leave him there when Nightshroud came. Yes he wanted to go back to Cybertron, yes he wanted to see Vos reinstated to it’s former glory. However, he refused to have those things happening at the cost of loosing Nightshroud. Starscream had a taste of loneliness for millenias and he did not care for it anymore. It had eaten at him, as he had lost everything being at the beak and call of a self-servicing maniac. Primus had put Nightshroud in his path, someone to care for that cared for him too. What a novelty. In another surprising turn, Soundwave actually sat down and played a song. It was a bit too aggressive for the Seeker’s taste, the thrumming of the drums of the metal song echoing in his helm and exacerbating his pain. The lyrics did not go unnoticed, his processor focusing on those. My God has shown his sympathy For all the spirits lost I've prayed for salvation And peace for ages Standing in the summer breeze Inhaling life again A new day has come A chance to relive Forget and forgive Curse those earth ballads and their enticing lyrics. When the song stopped, Starscream hummed a soft thanks. Music was a nice way to communicate, he had to give that to the Spy. Most of the music on his databanks were more of the classical genre, something about the string instruments humans called violins were so melancholic and made his spark long for home. There was an album he had found in an abandoned house a few decenies back that had caught his attention. It was something humans called a CD and Starscream had made a copy of it before moving on with the mission. He had wanted to give it to Soundwave as a means to flirt with the mech but had never gotten around doing it. He had finally listen to the music one night as he was making his fort in the hanger he had been hiding in before he got captured by G.H.O.S.T. It was synthetic music, something that Soundwave seemed fond of. It had appeal to Starscream because the whole album seemed to tell a story, each song taking the protagonists a little further down their journey. There was one track he rarely listened too because it made his spark ache too much. The Seeker’s speakers quality were far from Soundwave’s, the music coming out a bit more crackly than the original track. Starscream almost felt shy as he raised the volume of the song once he had started to play it out loud.
Ooh, I don't know what to do About this dream and you I wish this dream comes true
Ooh, I don't know what to do About this dream and you We'll make this dream come true

Soundwave didn't expect Starscream to enjoy the music, and frankly at that moment he didn't care. If he was going to pick the music, he was going to pick something he liked.. but he also wanted to pick something that resonated with the mood. The frustration, the pain both physical and mental from the millions of years that had encompassed the war both on Cybertron and on Earth. A hope that things would one day be better. It encompassed Soundwave's feelings and it spoke with more words than he'd ever care to say anymore. What he truly did not expect was for the seeker to not only enjoy it (even if just a little), but to start playing his own music afterwards. Though through grainer speakers that were far inferior to Soundwave's superior bass boosted ones, the spy jerked in recognition, immediately turning in the other's direction. He knew that song! It was a song by that human duo known as Daft Punk. The mech knew their music well, and had even taken inspiration from their own looks to use as his holoform in the event he actually need to use one. An interested hum escaped from Soundwave, watching Starscream carefully before playing the music over his own speakers to match the former air commander. Playing in stereo, Soundwave enjoyed this strange musical conversation they were having. Ooh, I don't know what to do About this dream and you I wish this dream comes true
Ooh, I don't know what to do About this dream and you We'll make this dream come trueSoon the music came to an end as the mech nodded in approval. "DAFT PUNK: SUPERIOR" Was this the way they were actually having a halfway decent conversation? Maybe this was the way to get Starscream to understand his feelings about everything: the war, Megatron.. this very encounter. Maybe it didn't hurt to play another song, this time by another Earthen band. This time it was a much more gentler tune compared to the previous song Soundwave had played. Something that he hoped would speak to Starscream a little bit more. The image in your eyes Reflecting the pain that has taken you I hear it in your voice, so ridden with shame From what's ailing you
I won't give up so don't give in You've fallen down but you can rise again So don't give up

The hum from Soundwave made Starscream smile, not really surprised the other mech knew this music. When the far more superior quality song coming from the cell next to his hit him, the Seeker gently tapped a digit to the beat. The base washed over him pleasantly, his frame relaxing until he felt like he could move again. Flopping on his back, Starscream winced, trying to settle in a semblance of position that wouldn’t be painful. By the end of the song he was relaxed and feeling like he was floating. That was nice. He still refused to open his optics, letting this strange musical conversation play itself. Soundwave praising Daft Punk made him chuckle, nodding in agreement. Another song played, making Starscream tilt his helm in curiosity. His focus was on the lyrics, trying to decipher what the spy was trying to communicate. His spark twisted, words sinking in as he tried to push down the overwhelming wave of emotions that were threatening to overtake him. When there's nothing left inside, there's still a reason to fight I'll be your reason to fight Give you a reason to fight Starscream felt like if he let his breath come out, it would come out as a sob, or worst, a whine. Trying to distract Soundwave from his emotional turmoil, Starscream played another Daft Punk song. He focused on calming his storming emotions and breathe in small, shallow, breath, praying to Primus he wasn’t crying right now. He had enough humiliation for a millenia, thank you.
It really didn't make sense Just to leave this unresolved It's not hard to go the distance When you finally get involved face to face

On completion of the song, Soundwave was unsure of what would happen next. Would they resume the chit chat or continue with this strange song and dance of communicating through music? He quickly received his answer in the form of yet another Daft Punk song over grainy stereos. Picking up on that cue, Soundwave began to play the song as well to create another stereo effect while he enjoyed the song. Though just what was Starscream trying to say with this one? That his original thoughts about Soundwave had been misguided? It was really hard to tell, but one thing was for sure. Starscream was trying to admit to something and that he appeared to want to make amends of sorts. He let the song play out, nodding along to the beat until it finally came to an end. There was a brief moment of silence as Soundwave processed what being said. Once more he hummed with approval, though he didn't know what song he wanted to play next. What he wanted to say next. Soundwave felt that the both of them had said everything they had needed to, and as such he opted to speak instead of playing another song. At least for now. "APOLOGY ACCEPTED"

Starscream wanted to scoff. This was ridiculous. No apologies from Soundwave of course, only he had to apologize. Whatever. He was too tired and feeling too relaxed to get himself worked up. He probably looked like a complete idiot, sprawled on floor, barely able to move. He didn’t know what he could say or do. He didn’t want to be annoyed, it felt nice to just be. The silence stretched, comfortably. The Seeker didn’t really care what the other mech was up too, just hearing and knowing he was there was calming enough for Starscream. He guessed they reached a truce, where Soundwave thought the Seeker had apologized for… something… anything. Not like he had casually just bared his spark, his feelings, like and idiot. That’s what you get for catching feelings for… for a robot. He knew exactly what would convey his irritation. He searched his databanks for the video he had seen and had tracked the music it had been set to. There, Jon Bellion the human musician was called. Peering at the discography, Starscream skipped over his first few favourites, not All Time Low, not quite the mood he wanted to throw at Soundwave's faceplate, Guillotine was too flirty... but he knew which one should raise the Spy's heckles.
Cause I had a fire, passion and desire Now all I require are circuits and wires Inside was an ocean of soul and emotion Then you cut me open, now all that I know is
I am a robot I am a robot I used to know love
Starscream knew what he wanted to hear, had dared… beg for it when he came out of his second reboot earlier. He wouldn’t this time time. This game of musical conversation was far more entertaining distracting.

Soundwave had thought their musical conversation to have reached its end, but here Starscream was continuing it with a song that he did not know. He did not look for it to play the song in stereo with the seeker, but instead tilted his helm as he listened to the words. Just what was Starscream attempting to convey with this song? At first it seemed stereotypical of Earth robots, but the more he listened the more it seemed to be.. pointed toward him? That had seemed to have been the case as he often hid his emotions having once been a bot filled with a burning passion to speak his truth. He once had fire, passion and desire. Still did, only he chose not to offer those willingly anymore. The mech too knew love and passion, but kept it to himself. The words did not seem to fit at first, but knowing Starscream these were pointed words. Insults. Clearly he was not getting some message that the former air commander was attempting to tell him, but just what was it? Or was it that.. he was trying to get Soundwave to open up a bit more? As the song reached its end, the spy hummed curiously to himself before speaking. “STARSCREAM: DESIRE FOR SOUNDWAVE TO SPEAK FURTHER?”

‘Ping’ [Self-repairs complete. System 100%]That hadn’t happened in a while. With a groan, Starscream sat up, on-lining his optics before rubbing his face plate with a servos. Blinking, he examined his arms, his pedes, his wings, surprised to see that aside from scuff marks, he was doing relatively… fine. The Seeker looked at Soundwave, tilting his helm on the side. So far not talking or playing music had gotten more out of the mech than when he had spoken his intake off, so he intended on sticking to that. Starscream, expression as neutral as he could, nodded. He was incredibly curious to hear what the Spy had to say, having expected Soundwave to offer playing more music before offering to talk. Talk to him. If he’d indulge his secret fantasies, the mech would call him his silly little rabbit before doing a sexy dance. Chances of that happening were next to zero, but the Seeker can dream. Soundwave was attractive, Starscream had flirted endlessly with the TIC, part in joke because he did that with everyone, but also, he really wouldn’t mind getting to know Soundwave more intimately. Much, much, much more intimately. The Seeker sighed. At least he was used to have his spark shattered, he was one hell of an enduring mech. Still, he needed to play the game, goad and stay execrable. Using Soundwave’s way of speaking, Starscream replayed one the lines from ‘Digital Love’ Why don’t you play the game?

And just like that, Starscream seemed to be much more alert than he previously had been. He’d finally gotten up, seeming confused as he looked himself over. Soundwave wasn’t sure what to make of the situation, but one thing was for certain: the seeker seemed much calmer in this moment. It was a rarity indeed to see Starscream in such a state, but one could easily take it over his obnoxious shrieking that he was infamous for. One had to wonder if that’s how he had gotten his name. A lone star screaming through the skies.. both in flight and in voice. Regardless of preference, it was still strange to have this moment of silence between them even with Soundwave speaking to him. Had he just really been that out of the loop? Still he couldn’t deny that the former air commander definitely seemed to look better than he had earlier. How strange. But that’s when the music resumed, or at the very least a single line from a song that had already been played. Soundwave stared at the mech, attempting to figure out its meaning in this context. Was Starscream still wanting to continue this musical conversation where lyrics spoke what they’d wanted to say in words they could not find themselves? As an idea struck in his processor, Soundwave fired up a song. Starscream wanted the game? He’d get ‘ The Game’. Tell me exactly what I am supposed to do Now that I have allowed you to beat me Do you think that we could play another game? Maybe I can win this time
I kind of like the misery you put me through Darling, you can trust me completely If you even try to look the other way I think that I could kill this time Rah, rah! Halfway into the song, Soundwave cut the music as the chorus wrapped up. "SECOND HALF: MEANINGLESS IN THIS CONTEXT."

Starscream stayed impassive, face plate blank, optics fixed on Soundwave. He could see the other mech processor churning, trying to grasp where things were going. The Seeker knew exactly where he was going, would continue his stubborn musical flirting until Soundwave got it. He’d play songs after songs until their meaning all bled into one and the daft, cold, distant mech would get it. Some part of his processor were screaming at him that this was a little too similar to an ‘Act of Intimacy’ for his taste. His spark jumped when the song mentioned ‘darling’, squinting at Soundwave. Could he read more into it or not? Making the mech talk would yield even less results, so, onward with this game they have to proceed. There was two songs the Seeker hesitated between, to use as an answer. He could go the flirty road, but his general mood and his frustration made him pick the saddest of the two. Starscream tilted his helm up, determination burning behind his optics. He blasted the song, unblinking, as stared and observed Soundwave’s reaction.
Say something, I'm giving up on you I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you Anywhere, I would've followed you Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I will swallow my pride You're the one that I love And I'm saying goodbye

It almost seemed like Starscream was enjoying this musical conversation as much as Soundwave was. How odd that this was what it took for them to not argue and actually have a halfway decent talk, but it was fitting all the same. Soundwave didn’t like to speak more than he had to, and he could let the music fill in the gaps. Maybe it showed a bit more of him than he’d really wanted, but songs were great for having different meanings depending on how you interpreted them. In this case, it was just a matter of determining what the other was trying to say with their specifically chosen songs. To other Decepticons in the jail, it could almost seem like they were just sharing random music, but it was deeper than that. The closest to speaking from the spark that the spy was willing to do. But the next song from Starscream left Soundwave utterly confused. It felt much different from the others, yet he could see a pattern based on previous choices from the seeker. And I am feeling so small It was over my head I know nothing at all
And I will stumble and fall I'm still learning love Just starting to crawl That could have implied anything, but Soundwave took it to mean that Starscream was attempting to extend trust. That this was new territory for him and was very uncertain, but that wouldn’t have explained the repeated lyrics of ‘giving up on you’. Say something I'm giving up on you I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you Anywhere I would have followed you Say something I'm giving up on you
And I will swallow my pride You're the one that I love And I'm saying goodbye Oh.Was.. Starscream flirting right now? Was he this whole time and Soundwave just hadn’t noticed? Did he think Soundwave didn't care? This wasn’t something he had expected from the former SIC, but maybe he’d just been blind to it this whole time due to how he’d focused his full attention on Megatron and his Cassetticons. With Megatron out of the picture, his viewpoint had shifted. There was a gaping hole in his spark that was once filled with friendship and loyalty to the former miner and gladiator that he called friend. He’d treated Starscream poorly for his betrayal attempts, but if Soundwave had realized for a moment that Megatron was going to betray the Decepticons.. would he have agreed with Starscream sooner? Caught in this maelstrom of confusion, Soundwave reciprocated with another song. One that was from the superior Daft Punk, and just so happened to be from the same album Starscream had already played two songs of thus far.
It might not be the right time I might not be the right one But there's something about us I want to say 'Cause there's something between us anyway
I might not be the right one It might not be the right time But there's something about us I've got to do Some kind of secret I will share with you
I need you more than anything in my life I want you more than anything in my life I'll miss you more than anyone in my life I love you more than anyone in my life Maybe those last lyrics didn’t quite fit under the intended context, but there was such a thing as loving someone as a friend, right? Like familial love. Platonic. Romantic wasn't something Soundwave was quite familiar with, but wasn't out of the realm of possibility.

One thing that had frustrated Starscream endlessly, when he had first been in contact with human technology, was how slow it was. Nothing had enraged him more than seeing those stupid ‘ loading time’ pop-up windows, letting him know how long he had to wait for something to happen or finish. The same thing was happening right now, and it was taking all of Starscream self-control to remain neutral, calm, impassive. He could almost see it in Soundwave’s visor. Loading 15% Starscream tilted his helm on the side, keeping his entire focus on Soundwave. Half-way trough the song, it looked like the loading bar had made some progress. Loading 45% Good things this song hammers the point home because it takes until the end for Soundwave to sign of recognition. Loading 75% Starscream waited, spark beating hard in it’s casing. He’s so nervous he can’t stop himself from crossing his arms, tapping one digit soundlessly, as he waiting for something to happen. This was torture.Good job Autobots, without knowing, they placed the worst mech to be his next door cellmate and he was unknowingly torturing the ex-Air Commander. Ooooh, how Optimus Prime would laugh if he’d knew, how any of them would laugh at him. Starscream, biggest lump in the universe, first fooled by Megatron and his universal conquest then threw himself at Soundwave the next minute. He recognized the song right away. He knew it, very well. It also mixed so well with the song he had played earlier. With a cocky grin, Starscream played his song, underlaying it with Soundwave’s, filling the gaps. The time is right to put my arms around you You're feeling right, you wrap your arms around too But suddenly I feel the shining sun Before I knew it, this dream was all gone
Ooh, I don't know what to do About this dream and you I wish this dream comes true
Ooh, I don't know what to do About this dream and you We'll make this dream come true
Why don't you play the game? Why don't you play the game?

Not that this made him hopeful. Or anything. Starscream hummed, not even near being done. Let's see how Soundwave would react to this one.
Light, like the flutter of wings, feel your hollow voice rushing into me As you're longing to sing So I, I will paint you in silver, I will wrap you in cold I will lift up your voice as I sink
Your sins into me Oh, my beautiful one, now Your sins into me
As a rapturous voice escapes, I will tremble a prayer And I'll beg for forgiveness (Your sins into me) Your sins into me
