Soundwave almost had to laugh. A vacation was such a foreign concept that most Cybertronians weren't familiar with it anymore if they plain didn't know what a vacation was to begin with. 4 million years of war did that to a civilization, but so many never knew the simple luxury of just going to a bar for a drink and then returning home for the evening to unwind and recharge. There were many, such as Megatron himself, who spent their days in the mines and the gladiator pits. They knew not what freedom was to begin with, and that's what they had fought for. That's what he had fought for during his time with the Council, and even they didn't want to hear it. The desire to take such a vacation with Starscream was only going to be that for a long time, or at least that was how Soundwave felt. First they needed to get out of this place but then there's be more trials and tribulations they would need to combat until they reached the end goal of returning to Cybertron.
The elephants, unfortunately, would have to wait.
"I believe all are owed time for relaxation and luxury after four million years of war not to mention the fighting that came long before the war itself. I may desire to see the elephants, but I cannot bring myself to dare fantasize of such niceties when others suffer due to the Autobots and Megatron. That is including you yourself, Starscream." How long had the seeker even been down here for anyway? It had to have been an extended stay given how stir crazy he seemed to be, but at least he seemed better for the moment. This arrangement may not be perfect, but it would have to do for the time being. Soundwave sighed as he thought to himself.
"And what of you? If you could do any one thing you desire what would it be? Aside from breaking out of this prison or into my cell."

It was a delight to stare at Soundwave without his mask, how expressive he was without his shield up, refreshingly so. It was something he could hold on too when he’d get tortured next time. So what if his optics always fell to his lips while he talked. He was still listening, this was just so new and fascinating.
What Starscream really wanted was to listen to Soundwave more. As much as could, be in the moment and all that soft-spark talk. Between the torture and the glitching in his processor making him forget… too much already?
“Would you… tell me more about yourself? You’re a complete mystery. Fascinating, but I am curious. Alpha Trion? The council? How old are you?”

Starscream's musings were a curious one. Soundwave had indeed been well renowned for his mysterious nature. Most knew of him as nothing more than Megatron's most faithful follower along with the likes of Shockwave. The mech behind the synthesizer was a complete unknown, but Starscream now knew at the very least that he had history with Cybertron's High Council; was a part of it in fact. While the High Council did exist during the Golden Age of Cybertron, their beginnings had actually taken place long before the Golden Age began. Soundwave prided himself on his secrecy, but given the situation and his newfound closeness with Starscream perhaps now was a good time to feed a little more of his history into the mix. Of course, any Decepticon listening in audial range would overhear, but it was something to pass the time if anything else.
Times were changing as it was. Perhaps now was the Spymaster's time to join the club.
"I date myself with a single piece of historical knowledge. To answer bluntly.. I recall a time when Cybertronians did not know how to transform." That would be the immediate realization for Starscream of just how old Soundwave was. The Age of Wrath was a time back when Cybertronians finally learned about their T-Cogs and their ability to transform with thanks to an alien species slowly attempting to take over Cybertron. They attempted to enslave Cybertronians and ship them offworld for profit, something Soundwave himself discovered after stealing notes from Shockwave. It was then that the ideals of functionism began, and had seen the birth of the High Council led by Zeta Prime himself. "Many historical moments and biological discoveries transpired, though much lost to time. However, as those who invaded Cybertron slowly began to take root they founded what would become Cybertron's core principles. They came to us proclaiming to be emissaries to uplift Cybertron and teach us of how to better ourselves. They instilled the principles of functionism as well as the unfortunate incident of bots coming from the Well of Allsparks with no name or personality. As you already know, Megatron himself was once one of those very bots."
There was so much more Soundwave could tell, but this was not the time for such tragic tales. Soundwave sighed, recalling some of the audio recordings that he had kept from that time. None of which he wanted to play for an already stressed seeker sitting in the next cell over.
"Yes, I am older than Megatron. I came about in the early days of the Age of Wrath, tasked by Zeta himself once he was elected to find out more about the alien overlords. It was I myself who discovered their plans to use Cybertronians as a whole as free slave labor, and not just the lower castes. All of us. For now.. that is all you need know."

Starscream had been expecting a variety of answers from Soundwave ranging from ‘No’ to ‘I will rip your spark out if you even mention you’ve seen my face’ but none of them even came close to what he got. For such a silent mech, Soundwave was a great storyteller. His way of slowly revealing information was so familiar, if he closed his eyes, Starscream could trick himself into thinking he’s listening to a report with Megatron in… the… room… Let’s not go there.
The more Soundwave revealed about himself, the more fascinated Starscream was.
The Seeker smiled softly at the end of Soundwave’s retelling. How perfectly in character of him to end like that. There was more Starscream wanted to know about, but not what Soundwave would probably expect.
“Do you… have music from those times?”
As it wasn’t something too personal, Starscream hoped he’d be indulged in his request.

It wouldn't have surprised Soundwave in the least if Starscream begged for more details. That was the kind of mech he was; to bribe and badger until he'd gotten what it was that he wanted. He'd exhibited some of that behavior when the Spymaster had been captured, but to a much lesser degree than the seeker normally would. Maybe it was just exhaustion from how long he'd been stuck in this cell, or maybe it was from how much that vengeful femme had changed him.. Truthfully it was hard to say. Only Starscream knew the answer, though it was possibly that he didn't. Though as expected the questioning did continue, but it did not take the turn that Soundwave had expected as Ravage continued to make himself comfortable. The former air commander seemed to be interested in the music of Soundwave's time of all things. The blue mech tilted his helm at first, curious about the request but wasn't prepared to dismiss it in any way. When was the last time that he'd listened to music of the old days of Cybertron? It'd been so long that he sat there in silence while rifling through his collections of music and vocal recordings over the countless stellar cycles that had passed. The list was too long honestly, but Soundwave kept all of his recordings nice and organized. It took some time, but he eventually came across something. Audio once more filled the room as old music picked up. To Earthlings it would be the rough equivalent of classical style music mixed with electronic elements and hints of early dubstep. He stayed quiet as he let the music play, watching Starscream closely as the music played.

As silence grew, doubt crept through Starscream. Had he finally reached the of Soundwave’s indulgence mood he had been in? The Seeker was mournfully preparing himself to see the visor and face plate snap close. The melody that came out of Soundwave froze him on the spot. He had never heard such music in all his many millennia of existence. His pede started to move, helm swaying.
It reminded him so much of home it made his spark ache. A servos clanked clumsily on his cockpit, digits digging in. The music reminded him of the skies above Vos, seeker festivals with flying mechs swirling around each other, complicated and dangerous dances high above the ground.
Nostalgia flooded him as his spark cried out in despair at the rich culture that had been destroyed, songs and sights he’ll never hear and see again. The longer the music played, the more his spark swirled and pulsed, yearning and something he couldn’t name flooding his spark, processor and frame. Coolant leaked from his optics.
His spark yearned for home, like a pull from an invisible thread, the music making the feeling exponentially stronger. He had never heard the song but it felt like he had. Had danced to it, spark filled with glee and elation. It all felt so real, it shouldn’t… not this vividly, not something that wasn’t his memories.
Starscream ran a scan of his systems, getting more and more confused as the melody affected his sparks in ways that were impossible, aching, longing, pulsing. His digits dug in the fragile glass of his cockpit, feeling that the only relief would come if the music stopped.
“S-stop it p-please...”
Closing his optics, Starscream slumped against the field separating the two cells, optics leaking as he focused on his spark, trying to understand what had just happened.

Soundwave let the music play as he himself remained silent, studying Starscream's reactions carefully. He did not know how familiar the seeker would be with this music, but it wouldn't have surprised the Spymaster if he had known it. Music lasted far longer for Cybertronians than it did in human societies where things were deemed old within a matter of years. It lasted for millennia, never truly being outdone by advances for ages at a time, and even then it remained as joyful as ever.
Tears and panic was not the reaction he had expected.
Without question, Soundwave shut down the music the moment Starscream pleaded for him to do so. While he could easily attempt to peer into the other's processor to try and get into the root cause, but he opted not to. It wasn't an enjoyable thing for him to do when tensions were high all around them along with strong, negative emotions everywhere. It would give him a processor ache if he tried, and the last thing Soundwave needed right now was for the former air commander to flip out because Soundwave had tried to read his mind. With this sort of reaction, it had to have triggered something powerful. A memory possibly whether good or bad. It was hard to say.
"I shall not play that music again. I apologize. I did not anticipate such a reaction, though I believe you may not have expected it either."

Starscream ex-vented harshly, servos still clutching the glass of his cockpit, his spark finally stopping its strange pulsing. All his scanners were running at maximum, diagnostics scrolling fast with their results. According to them; nothing was wrong. They all came back clear, he was doing fine… aside from the low levels of energon.
So what had happened?
Groaning, he raised his free servos to wipe away his face plate. Feeling a bit better, he scraped together some energy to reply to Soundwave.
“I did not expect… this, indeed… Nothing like… like this has ever happened to me…”
He was tempted to run another scan but he decided against it. Better save energy. Starscream ex-vented again, shakily this time, lowering his arms and slumping against the window. What in the Pits was that? Didn’t feel like the Call of the Sky, it felt like… when he was homesick for Cybertron. Only, the feeling was overwhelmingly amplified by a million.
“It felt like… My spark wanted to burst out and fly back to Cybertron…”

So that's what it was.
It surprised Soundwave that Starscream hadn't caught on quite yet as to what was going on. The sudden sadness when listening to the music; the tears and that yearning to fly back to Cybertron.. all crystal clear signs of homesickness. Soundwave understood that fairly well. None of them felt like Earth was their home and the planet and inhabitants alike had not been so kind to them. The war was forcibly over, at least for now, and their only means of getting back home was destroyed.. along with any hope of restoring Cybertron. Just where had the AllSpark gone? Had it made it through the space bridge or had it fallen victim and was destroyed with it? The chances of ever knowing were slim to none, and with the space bridge destroyed that meant that any coordinates to Cybertron were lost as well.
There was literally no going home. It was essentially lost to them now.
But that didn't mean they had to give up hope. There was still a chance that one day they could return home, and there was also a chance (even if small) that the AllSpark could be found intact.
"You yearn for Cybertron. For Vos. That is the only explanation." It made perfect sense to the Spymaster. "Your spark aches for that which is out of reach not only to you, but to us all. That which was robbed from us by the Prime and.. him. I know not if we shall ever be able to return one day, but if that day comes where we have the chance I would very much like to return. With you."

It did feel like being home sick, but on a much larger scale. Larger than his own spark? Who’s to say, with his kriffing spark. It had done weirder things before. Why bother to try and explain, no one would believe him anyway. So Starscream nodded along, remembering Cybertron and Vos, both the ones he knew and the ones he saw in the strange vision during the song. Grieving with all the weight of their home world on his shoulders.
“I do miss it, with all my spark.”
The Seeker curled on himself, stewing on this weird mystery, servos clenching. Was there even a home to go back to? War has ravaged their planet, resources are sparse. If not Cybertron or Earth, where then? Starscream ex-vented and pulled one of his oldest maps, the one he spent a few vorn creating with Skyfire on their first expedition.
How to get away from humans for good? Starscream scanned the map, looking further and away. The asteroid belt should pose a significant issue for humans with their current technology, an excellent natural first line of defence. Just past it, the giant gas planet with many moons.
That had some potential… but there's no possible way to make it there without bringing attention to them while gathering material and enough power. If they can gather all of the necessary materials, and that's a big if. What if they end up on a devastated Cybertron with no resources to space bridge somewhere else?
“What if there’s no home to go back to? What then?”

Soundwave knew homesickness all too well. He missed Cybertron greatly, but there was no way they were going to get back home any time soon. Even if they managed to get a working space bridge and find the coordinates to get back to Cybertron, the lack of AllSpark was going to be the ultimate deciding factor on whether they could live there or not. If they could find it that would be ideal, but regardless they were only in this situation because of Megatron.
Fragging.. Megatron.
The Spymaster growled as he thought of him.
But this wasn't about their former leader's betrayal right now. Right now it was just Soundwave, Starscream and Ravage.. and everyone else who could listen in with the cages so close to one another. Poor Skullcruncher on the other side of their cages was probably ready to bash his own helm in at this point. They only had each other until the perfect opportunity could present itself for them all to break out, and having Soundwave in here was probably the greatest asset they had. He could let Ravage loose and she could scope out the place. Still, that didn't do anything for the present moment and certainly didn't do anything to help Starscream's current mood.
"I vow this. We will not know what awaits us until the moment of our return to Cybertron.. but should it probe to not be habitable, we shall find another place to call home. While not the same, we will make due with what we can to make it what we need it to be. Cybertron is not a place. It is a people." As if he hadn't stolen a line from a film Frenzy had forced him to watch, but it was still fitting anyway. Any place could become a home if one forced it to be.
Besides.. Earth wasn't so bad. It had elephants.

Starscream was still peering at his map as Soundwave grunted, marking his findings before putting it away and focusing back on the mech in the next cage. Silence stretched, the Seeker settling in for more rest when Soundwave started his declaration. The seeker smiled at the promise, a bit too fondly for his own taste.
'Ping' [Home is where my Flock is.]
Looking at Ravage pressed against his leg, Starscream’s determination only cemented. He would find a place for them, far, far away from the Autobots, Earth and mostly, away from Megatron. It was sort of endearing to see Soundwave try and be reassuring. Ex-venting, he closed his optics and rested his helm against the window separating the cages.
“We’ll see how things evolve…”
