I might not be the right one It might not be the right time But there's something about us I've got to do Some kind of secret I will share with you
I need you more than anything in my life I want you more than anything in my life I'll miss you more than anyone in my life I love you more than anyone in my life
The doors of the cellblock opened and Starscream’s helm snapped up. Nothing too exciting had been happening recently aside from a trickle of ‘Cons here and there, so something new would be entertaining. The Seeker’s excitement only grew when he recognized who was the newest prisoner, imagining the familiar curves and the aft that would soon come into view. He scrambled up to his pedes quickly, staring as Soundwave and his escorts walked pass his cage, trying to see if the other mech was hurt without the femme bots noticing. Silence fell, Starscream's spark beating against the casing the only sound he could hear. He strained his audio receptors, waiting for anything. A small whine. "DECOY: SUCCESSFUL" Worry and relief flooded Starscream at the same time, but still, he didn’t dare to move. He picked up a warbling noise, then the familiar sound of Soundwave’s cassette compartment opening and Starscream was grinning. It was working. "RECON, RAVAGE" He couldn’t stop himself from laughing, stepping closer to the door as Ravage ran past him. The Seeker blew a kiss toward the cassette for luck, trying to regain his composure before turning his attention to the new comer. “I was starting to think you had forgotten all about your silly little rabbit.” Starscream sighed dramatically, trying to hide how affected he had been from being in a cage fighting the Call of the Sky. His tone was quieter when he spoke again, knowing full well Soundwave could pick up what he said. “Did they hurt you?”

Soundwave.. was not amused. He was furious that his interaction with Megatron had gone south, but he had accounted for something like this happening. G.H.O.S.T. and the Autobots capturing Soundwave was their worst mistake as he was better left free. That way he didn't have a way to play the decoy. Try as they might, they could not fully contain the mech. Blasting soundwaves at the cell door, Soundwave was able to get break it open momentarily.. just enough for Ravage to slip through and find himself free. It was all up to him now to provide reconnaissance and find a means of freeing all imprisoned Decepticons. If he could figure out the layout of the compound, that would be preferable, but even Ravage had his limits. As the cell door reclosed, Soundwave didn't even flinch as he heard that familiar cackle. That familiar voice. He turned his helm in their direction, speaking in his trademark monotonous voice. "STARSCREAM." Naturally this was where he had wound up, and it came as no surprise as he ignored the comment about the silly rabbit. Starscream may have been capable on the battlefield, but his arrogant ego was often times his downfall. It was only fitting that this would be the place that they would meet back up again. He tilted his head as he caught that whisper; that question of if he was alright or not. "SYSTEMS: OPTIMAL. AUTOBOTS AND MEGATRON: INFERIOR." Though there was that curiosity. How long had Starscream been down here anyway? "LENGTH OF CONFINEMENT?"

Brievety of words being chief amongst Soundwave behavior didn’t usually frustrated Starscream much. He had been by the Third-in-Command’s side for so long he knew how to read his physical tics well enough to guess the general mood. This, however, Starscream was not a fan of. Not being able to see the small tilt of his helm, the twitch in his servos or his shoulder plates hiking up.
Primus, it might have only been his name and 6 5 words but Starscream was so glad to hear them in the familiar and monotone speech pattern. Moving toward the wall separating them, Starscream rested his helm against it and closed his optics.
The Seeker laughed again after the question was asked, a more subdued and broken one, feeling himself on the verge of hysterics. Opting for laughter instead of crumbling to his knees and sob seemed like the best course of action.
“Careful there Sounders, you might make me think you care about me.” He tried to make his tone teasing, purring, alluring. It came out as desperate, worried and broken.
Honestly, he didn’t know how long he’d been here. Couldn’t keep track or it would drive him mad, he’d smash his helm against the walls until he deactivates. His servos came up, resting against the wall too.
“I don’t know” he whispered, deflating like the weight of Cybertron was dropped on his shoulder plates.

Even if Soundwave couldn't see Starscream directly, there was no mistaking his tone of voice. He may be laughing, but that was not Starscream's normal laugh. Broken. Subdued. It was if G.H.O.S.T. and the Autobots had already done their damage to the mech emotionally, not that it was hard to get underneath Starscream's steel plating. It was quite simple to do, and Megatron always made a point in demonstrating it. For as high and mighty as the Air Commander was, it was far too easy to knock him right back down. Again the seeker's words did not phase Soundwave as they were spoken to him. Whatever this means of flirting was, if it was even that, Soundwave brushed it aside for the moment. He was far more curious about Starscream's mental state than anything. It wasn't like he had much else to do at the moment until he waited for Ravage to return. The Cassette could take awhile; days even. There was no telling how fast operation: decoy would be completed, but the faster they could escape this prison the better. And yet, Starscream whispered once more. Still perfectly audible for Soundwave to hear and record for posterity. "ILLOGICAL. STARSCREAM: DEVOID OF IDEAS." Was he insinuating that he honestly hadn't been trying to escape? That wasn't like Starscream at all, so maybe he really had been here for quite some time. Seekers tended to go insane if they were stripped of their right to fly for too long. Thinking on it, Soundwave chose to replay an old audio that he had previously recorded. It was a means of trying to snap Starscream out of it, but also to demonstrate how he felt about the seeker at that moment. "MEGATRON HAS FALLEN! I, STARSCREAM, NOW LEAD THE DECEPTICONS!" If Megatron wasn't going to lead, then someone had to. As second in command, it was better suited that Starscream take up the mantle as Decepticon leader. While Soundwave was more than capable of taking it for himself, he had other uses that he was needed for. Perhaps one day, but today was not that day.

The insult is welcome, another layer of normalcy that soothe some of the craziness of being caged. What would he give to hear Skywarp talk his intake off right now, mundane things, making fun of Thundercracker for being a traitor, banter. The Seeker wished he didn’t have ideas, thoughts, plots, schemes, constantly running in his overactive processor.
Maybe he’s dead again. Tortured by a constant stream of people that he held close to his spark telling him the last thing he wants to hear from each one of them. That would make sense.
His optics flicked open when he heard his own voice, the words he had shouted triumphally sounding empty in the confines of his cage.
Starscream scoffed, feeling another hysterical laughter bubbling up. Or maybe he was about to purge. His processor was all over the place, thoughts and memories jumping at him and feeling like a knife in his spark. His vents were working at maximum as the Seeker’s servos shook and rattled.
“The Decepticons are eradicated, the War is over, there is no way back to Cybertron. Drop it Sounders.”
Pushing himself off the wall, Starscream shuffled to the back of the cage, resuming his usual slouching against the wall. As much as knowing that Soundwave was safe reassured him, the situation overall wasn’t looking to bright.
He had plenty of times to run scenarios and calculations. The Autobots broke so many prisoners from the Decepticon’s brigs, he had a suspicion this prison they built would be impervious to tricks the Bots have used themselves. Having Soundwave and Ravage close by at least made the odds of escaping higher.
All he could do is wait and recharge. By Primus did he need a good recharge…

So that was really it, then. Starscream was truly giving up just like that? Soundwave couldn't doubt that the mech had suffered in some regards whether it had been the cause of prolonged confinement or being on the run for so long with lack of resources. Soundwave knew that all too well, having lost one of the Cassettes due to lack of energon. The memory of the explosion, knowing they could not be saved.. It was painful and it angered Soundwave very much so. This had all been directly caused by Megatron's betrayal. As soon as he got out of this cell, Soundwave was going to make Megatron suffer just as much as he and the rest of the Decepticons had. "INNACURATE. DECEPTICONS RISE UP." Sure their numbers had dwindled, but there were still Decepticons out there willing to rise up and strike back. That had not been more apparent than those locked within G.H.O.S.T. HQ as well as Decepticons such as Mire and Shockwave, still out there waiting in the wings ready to jump into action at a moment's notice. Soundwave may not have known every Decepticon out there just as he didn't know of Nightshroud, but the Decepticons were far from finished with this war. "ESTIMATED CHANCES OF ESCAPE: 94.2 PERCENT. HIGHLY PROBABLE." They would fight. They would escape. But most importantly, the Decepticons would rule.

It felt nice to have someone to talk to, even if Soundwave’s replies were annoyingly short. He’d make do with that, to try and help him cling to his sanity. Starscream flopped on the ground, his wings scraping on the ground with a loud noise of metal grinding on metal.
Starscream slammed his helm against the wall as Soundwave prattled on about victory and statistics. Good, let him worry about that, with coming up with a plan, work is aft off only to be thrown right back here. Because where else can they go?
He wasn’t an idiot, he knew they were watched and everything they said was heard too. So he had to be careful on how he would handle this. His helm bent down, voice dropping as low as it could, not worrying if he’d be heard.
“Stop pretending you want me to lead.” His tone was cold and detached. “Search your stupid memory bank and compare how many time you’ve denigrated me. Reflect on that, instead of spewing garbage you don’t believe in at me.”
Starscream had tried. Not always successfully, but he had tried to keep the cause in line, tell Him his ideas were stupid, to stop making things with Optimus Prime so personal. He even took the abuse that would end up on another mech if he hadn’t stepped in. Never ended well for him. Why try again? No, thank you.
“Why don’t you become Leader of the Decepticons? Oh right, that would require for you to speak.”
He spat the last sentence out with as much venom as he could. He missed being surrounded with seekers that understood wingspeek, his spark twisting with guilt.
'Ping' [‘I'm telling you because we were wingmen-]
He missed flying.

It was true that perhaps Soundwave had treated Starscream horribly, but that was due to his allegiance to Megatron. He would not allow a single traitor to do their leader in, but times had changed. Megatron had betrayed the Decepticons himself and abandoned them all. It had left the spy in a deep state of confusion. He had already abandoned the Council once due to their misguided ways only to follow a mech who would later ditch him for the enemy. It left him angry and hurt, even if he never vocalized that to anyone.. but the anger was crystal clear. It's what had landed him here after all. But where did that leave Starscream on the totem pole? He was the second-in-command whether he wanted to admit that or not, and Soundwave had to admit when he took charge on missions he actually wasn't a complete failure.. some of the time. Someone needed to lead the Decepticons, and Starscream was unfortunately the best choice. However, if he kept refusing like this Soundwave would have no other choice than to do it himself. It was better than having Shockwave in charge. He was better suited to the lab than the battlefield anyway. If Starscream wasn't going to find a means of escape from this prison, then Soundwave would and there would be a temptation to just leave the seeker here to his misery. Thankfully, it sounded like maybe he wasn't as defeated as he originally thought if he was still spouting such hateful, vile words. While they didn't hurt Soundwave by any means, Starscream would only hear Soundwave growl at the jab for not speaking. He hadn't been there. He hadn't witnessed the Council's attempt to doom Cybertron by cutting off all ties to the colonies via destroying the space bridges yet make zero effort to try and save their citizens from the Rust Plague. He didn't hear how intensely Soundwave fought with his opinions only to be shot down. He didn't hear Soundwave's final rebuttals to them before walking away, vowing to never speak his thoughts again.. at least with his own voice. Simplicity was better suited, and it was never more clear when Starscream only had Soundwave's voice as 'comfort'. "COWARD." He considered activating his comm, only to realize it was blocked. There went the easy way of conversing.. so speaking it was. "WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO ACHIEVE?"

Starscream rolled his optics. Didn’t take Soundwave too long before he was back to casually throwing insults at him. Well, is it really an insult when it’s the truth? Starscream is a coward, it’s one of his biggest flaw and he’s all too aware of it. His whole existence, he had fought this trait in him, trying over and over again to overcome this weakness, by seeking power and surrounding himself with powerful mech that gave him the illusion of security.
He’s not an idiot. He knows his cowardice will be his downfall and it takes all his will, constantly, to fight the instinct to cower in fear, to drop his guard against the Call of the Sky and succumb to the madness. Having it thrown in his own face by a mech he…
What even were his feelings for Soundwave?
'Ping' [Soundwave: Complicated.]
Did it really have to even sound like him? “I don’t have a plan. I don’t have any will to achieve anything. It’s all gone.” Cold, distant, quiet and detached tone. No bite, no anger, just total resignation. “You are right, I am a coward and I’m finally accepting it.”

The whiplash from Starscream was aggravating to say the least. It was truly hard to judge if this was all some act from Starscream, but what was his game? What did he plan to get out of it if this was just another one of his schemes? The seeker was hard to read for that reason, and it wasn't something that Soundwave was particularly fond of. It only served to anger the musical mech that he couldn't figure out just what was going on with the second-in-command.. or whatever he wished to call himself now. Maybe a few more barbs thrown the Seeker's way could extract some answers; to get an idea of what his true motive was. "ACCEPTION: TOO LATE. STARSCREAM: ALONE." Soundwave sure as spark was not alone. He had his Cassettes, and that was what mattered to him. Of course, he didn't know that Starscream wasn't truly alone. He remained unaware of the seeker's 'get out of jail' card. Once more Soundwave played an audio clip, this time from Megatron himself. It angered him thinking about it, but it was fitting all the same. "YOU ARE EITHER LYING.. OR YOU ARE STUPID."

It seems that for once, Starscream had the upper hand. He knew Soundwave relied heavily on his physical language to read him and with just his voice, duping the spy will be so much easier. He could, however, easily tell how Soundwave was ticked off by his replies so far. He was resorting to saying quite cruel things, considering. If only they were true. Starscream was not alone, he had Nightshroud and that’s not something he left like sharing with Soundwave.
'Ping' [ RUN ]
Hearing His voice made his spark jump. Panic grew, systems jumping into Warnings and triggering his flight response even harder. Which he was trying to ignore because he’s in a fraggin cage, servos shaking, panic building up.
If Soundwave wanted to be cruel, two could play this game.
He let the flood gate open, all the resentment, anger panic, urge to flight overwhelm him. He’s on his pedes in a click, vents overclocking as they try to keep his system from frying and off-lining. He presses on, bringing on all the beatings, all the pain, all the misery. He starts pacing in the cage, quickly, overworking against his T cog wanting to transform, sparks flying.
“YOU’RE RIGHT! YOU ARE BOTH RIGHT, I AM AN IDIOT, I-”
And with that, he crashed on the ground, passing out as his systems try to overcompensate for the frenzied state he put himself in. He goes through his reboot patiently, making sure his audio receptors were back online right away as the rest slowly healed the damaged he had done. He left his consciousness drift into the miserable memories of being beaten up and mistreated by the Decepticon leadership and waited.

And there it was. Soundwave was not surprised by the sudden sound of Starscream frantically pacing around his cell. As much as he hated using a clip of Megatron's, he knew if anything would get to the seeker that would be the voice to do it. He could hear the sparks flying, the rapid movements back and forth. He didn't need to see Starscream to know he'd forced the mech into a panic. Interesting.. but it was something worth keeping note of. It didn't take long for Starscream to start his trademark screaming, but he noted the sudden pause before the loud metallic thud of what could only be the seeker hitting the ground. Given the silence, it wasn't hard for the mech to put two and two together. The ex-air commander had clearly worked himself up so much that he'd collapsed. "FINISHED WITH THE DRAMATICS?" Strange.. No response. Usually Starscream would have had some retort ready to fire back upon him. What if something was wrong? There was no doubt Soundwave could escape on his own, but there was a use for having Starscream around as well. "STARSCREAM: STATUS"

Starscream liked being in reboot mode. I gave him time to review his systems, make sure everything was in order, to enjoy and even bask in memories. It helped him to escape when he needed it, be it pain or trauma. Like right now. His systems were making progress on their own and aside from his audio he didn’t need to force anything to go online faster. While the reboot did it’s thing, Starscream turned his attention to his databanks.
Tired of feeling miserable and knowing he could drop the charade while he was in this mode, Starscream pulled some of the good times he had with Nightshroud during their hiding in the hanger. Laughing, banter, simple companionship. That’s what he longed for, more than anything, right now. More than the need to fly, more than the need to escape. He wanted to feel safe, surrounded by mech he loved. Surrounded by his flock.
So he kept bouncing between different recordings he had kept, vaguely noticing when Soundwave spoke but not aware enough to understand and acknowledge what was said. His systems showed 46%, he still had time. It was interesting that Soundwave seemed to care enough to keep talking to him.
Starscream had expected silence to stretch, not a worried inquiry. Interesting. He turned his attention back to the memories, feeling his spark warm at the good times he had with Nightshroud. He knew soon enough he would add more of these to his databank and he was looking forward to that time to come.

The longer Starscream remained silent, the stranger it became. It was unusual for Starscream to stay quiet for this long, and the fact that he was flat out ignoring Soundwave was becoming concerning. However, Soundwave was also growing more annoyed the longer the seeker didn't respond to him. He walked to the cell's wall that separated him and the seeker, banging on it to try and get the other's attention. "STARSCREAM: STATUS" He repeated his words, this time louder to see if that would get his attention, yet it still had not. What was going on in his cell? Had Megatron's voice rattled him that badly that he had completely shut down? Had a spark attack? Starscream was one to always keep talking and the fact that he had stopped at all was room for concern enough. There wasn't much else that he could do in that moment aside from attempting to break out of his cell to see for himself. Growling, Soundwave returned to the cell door before blasting his sound waves to try and disrupt the door's operations once more. Unfortunately, he could only get it to open as much as he had before; just enough for Ravage to get out of the cell before he couldn't keep it going any longer. Growing frustrated, Soundwave turned back to the direction of Starscream's cell. No matter what he said or did, it didn't seem to be making much of a difference. Going back to another recording of his, Soundwave played back an audio in Starscream's voice. "TIME MAKES ALL THINGS POSSIBLE. I CAN WAIT."
